Welcome to XCHC. Our industrial arts space hosts 10-15 artist in residents, a showcase space, studios, live-in residencies, and many creative events. XCHC was born post-earthquake context to give creative people a place to connect, produce, experiment, and share creative work. Come for a coffee, meet some local artists, bring your own art/craft supplies. As a workspace and event space, our hours change daily, so just drop in or get in touch if you'd like to visit; we're happy to show everyone around this hidden gem and tell you its story.. our story.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An interesting place for a lite bite coffee and chat . This place supports a number of interesting social groups . It shares. I mixed work space for creative types of individuals. They stage exhibitions from various artists during times of the year .

If you get a chance, definitely attend a function at the XCHC. This place is unique, providing a space for events of all kinds (concerts, film screenings, poetry, exhibitions and workshops) and houses a communal creative area where arty people of all types do their thing. The office is home to a nutrition consultancy and there is also a small shop to buy unusal gifts. Best of all there is a licensed cafe with super friendly staff, which is open during the day and also for evening events, so you can have a glass of their special Pinot while learning about environmental issues or perhaps listening to a local musician.

Up there with the best coffee in Christchurch.
Always smiley staff and good banter to be had.
Not to mention an ever changing art scene inside and free wifi all day in exchange for a single purchase of anything - even a coffee.

The best place to hang out with and meet amazing artsy people. Everyone is welcome here and free to bring their art. Great coffee, too. Don't miss out on this experience.

The Xchc is a great place to go if you are new to the city and want to find creative's, entrepreneurs, and genuinely friendly people to socialize or network with. There are nice big tables to work on art projects or have meetings, the food is so good + vegan friendly (bonus!) I have made some close friendships at the events they have hosted. I like the care that they take to consider both introverts and extroverts, and how they nurture emerging artists with how messy and imperfect growth/creativity can be!

This place and what it has become is exactly what alot of leaders of creative communities aspire to achieve.
I was thoroughly inspired by what many of us think is difficult yet XCHC is proof that it is possible.
See if you have the opportunity to have a chat with Preston, one of the main leaders of this space. There will be insight and inspiration to be shared.
Would'nt have expected it but this was one of the most inspiring memories of my trip to New Zealand. Make sure to check it out !
