Went through a few years ago with our two girls. It needs better signage so that vehicles are definitely up to it because our family van barely made it! It was amazing though.

We started our trip in Hanmer Springs. The road through Molesworth station is only open in the summer. It is remote and you need to be able to help yourself if you get stuck. The road goes through beautiful country with vast views of mountains...More

Awesome tour, love the wide open spaces and freedom, and that is what we got. The country side was a pleasure to visit. A few eye opening views that really were the best. Enjoyed it totally.

I enjoyed the drive through the actual Molesworth but coming out the Awatere Valley was long and windy. A lot of the landscape could be compared with other parts of the South Island landscape. DOC had presented the history well at various points along the...More

Approaching from Hanmer would be good. The roads are signposted but make sure your vehicle has a high road clearance, lack of overhangs (U shaped entrance / exits to rivers) and plenty of fuel in the tank before you go... More
