About
HEARTS IN MARLBOROUGH SINCE 1980, ROOTS IN CHAMPAGNE SINCE 1684. No.1 Family Estate is a boutique Methode Champenoise winery founded by Daniel and Adele Le Brun. It is the only winery in New Zealand committed exclusively to producing premium Méthode Traditionelle wine. Almost 40 years ago, champagne maker Daniel Le Brun has had one goal: to make Méthode Traditionelle and to do it in Marlborough, New Zealand. Since he planted the first vines in Marlborough, the award-winning winemaker has created wines that rival the best in the world using methods perfected over 12 generations by his family in Champagne. While Daniel makes the wine, Adele provides the business and marketing flair. The next generation of Le Bruns, son Remy and daughter Virginie, are the faces of the future and are actively involved in building the No.1 brand, in New Zealand and across the world.

    Great bubble and informative
It was a great experience at No.1 wine tasting. The Lady who was giving information about the bubble was really informative and knowledgeable. We had a great experience and really enjoyed we also brought 2 bottles of bubbles for Christmas.

    Highly recommend!
Lovely little winery. Best to call ahead especially for this one purely because it is quite small. We had a slightly larger group and were seated to toward the back of tasting room, on an outside table, which gave a real private and accommodating experience, which we loved. The person who took us through the tasting (apologies, I don’t remember your name) was so polite, funny, helpful and very knowledgeable and passionate of the wines and history of No. 1 - which has a great story behind it. Highly recommend.

    Bubbly in Blenheim!
Unusual wine tasting spot in Marlborough, because it's all champagne. Owners use the traditional French methods, and the results are outstanding. We got an informative chat on the process, and a complimentary tasting of three of their wines. Definitely worth a stop.

Fantastic quality sparkling wine at a VERY reasonable price!
Fantastic sparkling wine (would be Champagne if from Champagne, France). Incredibly reasonable pricing - $39 NZD for a bottle of the Cuvee which is VERY reasonable compared to bulk produced Moet (normally about double). Maybe not quite as dry as French Champagne but that actually makes it dangerously more drinkable! The staff were incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable and we felt very welcomed. The tasting room is on the small side but that just encourages you to engage with the other samplers. Very funky table and chairs!

Only 3 wines available to taste, and can’t buy by the glass which the host seemed very rude to us about, tastings only. Okay spot, however wouldn’t recommend

We were cycling round the region and popped into this winery as we saw its sign saying it produces Méthode Traditionnelle wines. We had a free tasing of three sparking wines and the host relayed the story of the vineyard and gave us lovely service.

This was stop No.3 on our (self directed) wine tour. We were met by a very friendly and knowledgeable Jo. She gave a wonderful insight into No. 1’s history and the processes involved. The tasting was amazing, we even bought a few bottles! I would highly recommend stopping in to see Jo & taste the amazing sparkling.
