16 reviews
Save time and skip the lines with this combo ticket to Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre’s cutting-edge ‘Knights of the Sky’ and ‘Dangerous Skies’ exhibits. Learn about New Zealand’s wartime pilots and see their stories brought to life in sets created by the award-winning WingNut Films and Weta Workshop. Enthusiasts should make a beeline to the Centre’s aviation relics: immaculately-preserved bomber planes and fighter jets from both World Wars.

We must have struck a bad day, as we entered we were asked if we were with another person that came at the same time. Then we were told “here is your tasting” and then the staff member returned to putting stickers on boxes with the other staff member. No explanation on the chocolate tasting or information on anything else. Not really worth the visit. We had intended to buy gifts but only brought one thing and left feeling like we were not welcome. I hope that improve their welcoming, as a NZ citizen I would hate this to be the face of Makana in the South Island. (Had a better experience in the North Island). Having said that the macadamia crunch is to die for.

Walked in the doors and immediately greeted with "Welcome to Makana! " alongside the simultabious aroma hitting the senses of chocolate and toffee and all those lovely smells. The staff are super friendly and offerings of samples were very well received. Prices here are not cheap, but in line with what you would expect from a handmade boutique enterprise. Left with an exciting package of treats.

A lovely little place with a range to entice everyone. Love the free samples and my personal fav is the Macadamia Butter Toffee Crunch.

This is a must visit. The staff warmly greeted us as we entered the shop and we were offered three different tastings while we were there. It was interesting to watch the chocolatiers at work. Making chocolate really is a labour of love. Although the chocolate is on the expensive side, it is quality and very delicious. We took home a bag of brittle to enjoy.
