Description:

Omaka Avation Heritage Centre presents the outstanding Knights of the Sky...

Omaka Avation Heritage Centre presents the outstanding Knights of the Sky exhibition, featuring Sir Peter Jackson's own collection of World War One aircraft and artifacts. The story of aviation, its development and the men that flew them, is brought to life in sensational sets created by the internationally acclaimed talent of WingNut Films and Weta Workshop. The aircraft are a unique mix of originals and replicas, some of which are flyable and/or can only be seen at Omaka including the Caproni CA.22. The Centre boasts an extensive collection of memorabilia and these are divided into two areas, one devoted to the Allies and the other to the Central Powers. The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre is extremely privileged to be the caretakers of these historical treasures, which include personal items of Manfred von Richthofen, the legendary Red Baron, top scoring Allied ace Frenchman Rene Fonck, top scroring American ace Eddie Rickenbacker, Germany's Ernst Udet ranked second only to Richtohfen when WW1 ended and the infamous Herman Goering. The Knights of the Sky Exhibition is a display like no other and you don't have to be an aviation enthusiast to enjoy it!

I attend the Warbirds airshow this year, what a hoot! Just brilliant, set in the beautiful vineyards of Marlborough. My airplane nutter Mate and I purchased platinum tickets and had the best of the seating, food and NZ wines to enjoy while watching a spectacular air display over two days. There are no platinum tickets for Friday so we bought... More

I bring young people that I am mentoring here everytime I have a new young person. It's mind blowing for some of them and I love to see how much they get out of it.

We visited the air show. It was excellent. The highlight of the show was the fireworks display but I really enjoyed the aerobatics and the fire dancers as well. The food stalls were interesting and varied and we were able to try local wine and craft beer.

There are a number of original military aircraft from the first and second world wars and some excellent replicas. What could occupy you for many hours are the collections of associated paraphernalia: miltary uniforms; equipment; photographs; letters; information about important military aviation pioneers. I could have spent much more time there.

We spent 3 hours at this brilliant Centre. Went through both the 1st & 2nd World War exhibitions. Just fantastic. Would live to visit again. The Guides moving through the exhibition offered some very interesting insights into the exhibition. Thoroughly recommended.

We visited this museum in January this year. It was the second time for me and the first for my husband and son. It is an amazing place. Peter Jackson has used his creative genius well and made a museum display well worth going to see. The different planes have been put into settings which endeavour to demonstrate the time... More

Peter Jackson, of Lord of the Rings fame, has been a collector of WW1 aircraft memorabilia since childhood. He has used his film-making experience to sethis aircraft in realistic scenarios.

Well worth the time to stop off to see and enjoy the exhibition of World War 1 aviation history. The exhibits have been masterly crafted and currently a WW2 extension has been constructed.
