Description:

Omaka Avation Heritage Centre presents the outstanding Knights of the Sky...

Omaka Avation Heritage Centre presents the outstanding Knights of the Sky exhibition, featuring Sir Peter Jackson's own collection of World War One aircraft and artifacts. The story of aviation, its development and the men that flew them, is brought to life in sensational sets created by the internationally acclaimed talent of WingNut Films and Weta Workshop. The aircraft are a unique mix of originals and replicas, some of which are flyable and/or can only be seen at Omaka including the Caproni CA.22. The Centre boasts an extensive collection of memorabilia and these are divided into two areas, one devoted to the Allies and the other to the Central Powers. The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre is extremely privileged to be the caretakers of these historical treasures, which include personal items of Manfred von Richthofen, the legendary Red Baron, top scoring Allied ace Frenchman Rene Fonck, top scroring American ace Eddie Rickenbacker, Germany's Ernst Udet ranked second only to Richtohfen when WW1 ended and the infamous Herman Goering. The Knights of the Sky Exhibition is a display like no other and you don't have to be an aviation enthusiast to enjoy it!

Very sobering. The facts these people have gathered are very thought provoking. The planes they have on display are remarkable. The set up of these planes in the scenes of war and destruction unbelievable. The man walking around with the extra information has a wealth of knowledge. The memorabilia collected and displayed is massive. This is a place all families... More

Someone must have spent a huge amount of money to collect and present all these aircraft and mementoes from the history of aviation. Each story board represented a lot of research into the background of each artifact on display. For those who do not want to read the detail, the skills of the movie industry have been used to great... More

We really enjoyed the WW2 section of this museum. Very informative and moving. Wish we had time to do both sections including WW1.

A must when visiting Marlborough, I've been to many exhibitions around the world and this is definitely up there. Something locals can be proud of. Excellent experience, even if a casual enthusiast.

As numerous reviewers have remarked this is without doubt a world-class museum and worth coming to Blenheim just to see it. The aircraft are superb but New Zealanders will recognize the stamp of Weta Workshop as the machines don't just sit there mutely, but are often surrounded by a tableau that tells a story, a good example being the crash... Simple and direct: a world class experience. On its own deserves a visit to New Zealand. Amazing collection of original and beautifully replicated planes . Their histories are brought to life in spectacular set designs. The impressive collection of memorabilia from all sides of the war experience are carefully researched and each element has a captivating story behind, well explained.... More

Thank you Peter Jackson for making this historical wonder a possibility. Really overwhelming. So much detail and variety of displays. We only saw the WW1 wing. The wall of poppies is striking.
