Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The motel pick-up was both prompt and friendly, as was the drop-off later in the day.

Our private guide for the day was Fenella, a very personable and knowledgeable local lass who was home from University and working through the summer.

She had selected wineries at the smaller end of the scale, not the large corporate ones, and so our experience was delightfully intimate. This was very much appreciated by my wife, who wanted to learn more about wine, but as a foreigner, was worried that her level of English would have been a hindrance in a larger hurried group. In fact it wasn't an issue with anyone, including Fenella, so this only added to our fabulous day.

The bike ride itself, on warm blue-sky day, was very easy, and the lunch at Giesen was superb. I think we paid about 70 NZD for a fairly magnificent harvest platter, including 2 glasses of wine.

All in all, a fantastic day tasting and learning about outstanding Marlborough wines, in great company. Big thanks to "Explore Marlborough Wine Tours", and especially to Fenella.
Highly recommended!

We booked a full day self-guided bicycle tour with Explore Marlborough Wine Tours online, and could not have been happier with how great this company was. Our livers were tired long before the end of the day, and they were kind enough to take us back in to town a bit early. We loved the tour so much that we booked for a second day with this company, and again did slightly more than a half day. While it costs slightly more, the cab back to Blenheim is quite expensive. So I recommend going with the full day option which includes the transportation to and from your accommodations. Everyone from the company was so kind, knowledgable and helpful-I would definitely recommend booking with them. Also, my girlfriend forgot the packing bags that she had bought in the van on the way back, and they even went so far as to drop them off to us later in the evening! Do yourself a favour and book this tour!!!!

Really great place to hire bikes from, super friendly team, pick up/drop off from location was really great, on time, etc. They give some great advice about the various wineries if you don’t already have a plan of where to visit. They’ll also come pick up your wine purchases so you don’t have to carry them on the bikes.
We were there on what turned out to be a warm but windy day with strong gusts so watch out. Be realistic about how far you can travel - we were recommended quite a distance and that it was possible to go all the way out to Clos Henry - we didn’t but drove there the next day and were so glad as it is so much further that you think, and would have spent so much time just cycling to get there and back. Also be wary of some of the off road tracks that are super stony and difficult to cycle over. Recommend you do one day cycling around some of the close together wineries and drive out to others another day.

Fantastic!
Andy was extremely personable and had extensive knowledge of the area. He provided us with numerous tips and recommendations for wineries to visit. The bikes provided were excellent quality and the option of high vis vests put safety first. The drop off at the airport at the end of the day was above and beyond for Explore Marlborough Wine Tours. Would thoroughly recommend them if you are thinking of cycling round the many wineries in the region.

I would recommended using this company and could not fault the service. The price of hiring the bike and pick up and drop off from our accomodation was quite cheap I thought.

The owners were very friendly. They picked us up from our accommodation in the later morning despite ringing earlier in the morning to book. The van held about 10 people and was very comfortable. The bike that I received was brand new, was a comfortable ride, had a bike lock, a good helmet, a high visibility jacket (if you wished to use it) and a basket on the front which carried the wine that I brought. They gave good instructions how to use the bike. They gave a map with the local wineries on it and suggested wineries and paths and roads to take. The business was located in the heart of the wine district so it wasn't too far to bike to each winery. They picked us up on return to the company premises at the agreed time and returned us to our accomodation.

Unfortunately the weather was not on our side, however did not affect our experience. Was really fun cycling from winery to winery. Really safe and the staff at the wineries were helpful and not intimidating. We were given a suggested route which was perfect and given some tips about the wineries. Would recommend the pick up and drop off as well $10 a way and was totally worth it .

Not normally a fan of organised tours, however this one exceeded all expectations! Graeme our driver and tour support was absolutely brilliant. He was supportive and encouraging and made sure he monitored us at all times in case anyone needed first aid, a lift instead of the bicycle, support, encouragement. He also stopped at the chocolate shop on request and ensured we were aware of various sights, flora and fauna along the way. What a nice man and a real asset to his company. Thank you Graeme!

We had the best tour. So easy! Our guide picked us up, set us up on bikes, gave us the perfect cellar door itinerary, picked up our wines and dropped us home. He was so friendly and knowledgeable and made everything so easy. It was a great circuit for the afternoon. Tried some amazing wines and had a short workout in between on the paths that went through the wines. Would 100% recommend.

We signed up for the self guided tour but decided to change to the full day guided tour instead. We had done a self guided bicycle tour in Argentina a few years ago and found we wasted time trying to navigate on our own. This guided tour was well worth it! The guide knew the best wineries (and they knew her so we got preferential treatment!). Plus our guide knew the best off road trails for us to bicycle between the wineries.

Had another amazing day on the bikes in wine country. Matt and Andy are hilarious and totally fun. The bikes are in good shape and lots of fun. I would highly recommend them. I would also recommend you cycle to the farthest winery first ..... like Cloudy Bay or Rock Ferry then make your back slowly. Having done this a few times now, biggest mistake is that most only make it 2-3 wineries before they have turn around for a long ride home. Knocking it out early and having an easy ride home gives you more time and peaceful conclusion to your great day. I always suggest MOA brewery for finishing off your day as The Vines Close’s at 5pm and there is no opportunity to hang out there after your ride. Enjoy and the my high fives are the mussel chowder at Wairau River or the platter for two at Geisen.

Great review with some good recommendations. The mussel chowder at Wairau is one of my favourites too. The Vines Village now has a tap room and gin bar that serves the locally brewed beer and flights of gin that are made at the onsite distillery. It is now open until 5.30pm so try that out the next time you visit as it is getting great reviews. Thanks for booking with us and we look forward to seeing you next time.
