We had a wonderful day organised by Wine Tours by Bike, the rainy grey day wasn’t even a dampner. Our group of 8 hired 4 tandems for my birthday weekend in Blenheim. As we had a bigger group, and with it being winter and post covid, Jo arranged an itinerary for us. This was great as we didn’t waste time searching for which doors were open and where we could eat etc. Jo made every effort to plan a great day for us and the communication before and after the day was outstanding. I think the Value-For-Money provided is exceptional, when you consider the transport in the pick-up from our accommodation, the itinerary, dropping off our picnic at our lunch stop, the cellar door bookings not to mention the bikes…all for $40 each. We will certainly be back in the summer to visit some more Cellar Doors and revisit our tandem skills! I would highly recommend it.

This was such a great day, all brilliantly organised by Jo and Steve. We came in to Picton on a cruise ship and were met by a taxi that Jo had arranged for us. It was about a 30 minute ride in the car, through fantastic countryside. Once we arrived (just before 10am) it was a quick bike fit / briefing (which included a map of all the vineyards and a short summary of each one) and then we were off. There was such a choice of where you could go, but we did the following: Spy Valley about a 40 minute ride there (named after the local listening station), then to Whitehaven and lastly to Bladen. At Whitehaven there is also a lovely cafe where we had some lunch (we had the cheese platter, but lots to choose from). Bladen is a smaller family owned vineyard which was recommended to us and is worth a visit. Each tasting was NZ$5 per person (but some vineyards vary) and the tasting charge is waived if you buy something. Each visit we learnt something new and they tell you about each wine. There is no pressure to buy at the end. We then rode back to return our bikes, arriving just before the allotted 3pm return (I am sure you can hire for longer, but we had to get back to the ship). I believe Jo and Steve will pick you up if staying locally. All bookings were done on trust and payment only taken at the end. Thanks Jo and Steve for a memorable day.

I’m leaving this review because of how nice both Steve and Jo were to us after we inadvertently got into the wrong van after hearing them calling out a name that was almost the same as mine.

We’d actually booked with another company and it was extremely unfortunate that both couples were being picked up for wine tours from the same caravan park at exactly the same time. Our error meant that by the time the mistake had been realised we had already upgraded to a Roadster (highly recommended!), headed off and were already on our 5th tasting glass of wine at our first vineyard stop.

Steve had to drive to the vineyard to locate us, allowing us to finish our wine before we cycled back to the base to return the bike. They then dropped us off to the rightful tour company, with whom we’d already pre-paid for daily bike hire.

For all this trouble, we weren’t charged anything by Wine Tours by Bike and throughout Steve and Jo were both so kind and pleasant to us.

I just hope that the other couple were not too upset as Jo clearly said his name when she arrived as the pickup point but we just got into the van anyway without questioning anything.

Although we only spent a short period with this company I can not recommend them more highly, they were so kind to us when clearly the mixup was our fault and we’d most likely created a difficult situation with the other couple.

From my very first interaction with Jo & Steve (an email to reserve a couple of bikes) I instantly knew they were great people who cared deeply for their customers. They were super flexible when we ended up arriving later than expected and helped us plan our afternoon to get the most out of it. They provided excellent recommendations, great bikes, and they have great relationships with the wineries near them which allowed us to get one last glass of wine even though it was after closing time. We would go back in a heart beat and now that we know they have a bed and breakfast we would look to stay there next time because of their wonderful hospitality. Highly recommended.

Picked up from accomdation right on time and no worries about drinking driving. Jo was full of information and offered us to change from roadster bike if wanted. We stuck with roadster bike for a change and loved it recommend giving it a go. Jo sorted out lunch booking and supplied everything we needed. Highly recommend this company great day out had by myself and husband.

Steve, Jo, and Michael were extremely hospitable and accommodating. We had a tight schedule to taste and catch the 2:46 train out to Christchurch. We were picked up right in front of our hotel on time. They then watched our luggage as we biked around the vineyards and brought us back to the train station in town all without any extra charge. Lovely people and wonderful town. Highly recommend. One big perk: saddle bags in the back of the bike that carry up to 4bottles per bike with additional handlebar baskets.

We booked with Steve and Jo for my girlfriends birthday and we were not disappointed at all. The service we received exceeded our expectations, and made for a brilliant weekend spent. As we were staying a little further away, we had emailed before enquiring about the pick up/ drop off option and received a response almost immediately. We were picked up by Steve who chatted away to us, and when we arrived at HQ he even presented my girlfriend with her own “Birthday Girl” badge; this lead to a couple of free tasters! The bikes were great, and we were given a detailed explanation on the routes and cellar doors to plan our day. After a brilliant day exploring the vineyards, Jo dropped us back at our campsite, and even offered to take us to a supermarket because of our remote location! We declined with thanks, but it was the little things that made their service perfect. We would recommend Wine Tours by Bike to anyone in the Blenheim area as a “must-do” and would book with them again in a heartbeat.

Steve & Jo were awesome, very friendly and lots of helpful tips which ensured we had a fun day. The bikes are great and super comfy! We booked the 11am to 5pm, included transfers and bike hire. They provided a map to help plan what we would do, we visited 6 wineries (incl 1 lunch stop at Wairau River). The wine purchase pick up service was also a lovely bonus :)
Would highly recommend.

We went on a bike tasting tour with two small kids (1 and 3 year old) and the complete service from beginning to end was just excellent.
1. Helping us with putting the children and all our stuff in the shuttle bus (thanks Dave)
2. Taking all the time to show is which wineries are family friendly (thanks Steve)
3. Having children bike karts (for free!) and we could even take two which allowed us to store our bags as well and also for our youngest they put a maxicosi car seat which allowed him to sleep on the way
4. Lastly, everybody was very friendly and helpful and the information on all the wineries was perfect

We stayed in Blenheim but would highly recommend them as it puts you at the heart of all the wineries!

Fabulous meeting you all and it was a pleasure to help. Really pleased that you had such a great time. We are very fortunate indeed to have such a wonderful selection of family friendly cellar doors close by us as they certainly make it a lot easier for Mum's and Dad's. We hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday in NZ. Travel safe and take care. Cheers Steve, Jo, Dave and Dale xx

Thanks Steve and Jo for being the perfect hosts and for all the support with booking the bikes plus return transport from Havelock to Renwick.

This was the perfect and fun way to visit the wineries. A large section of the trail is following bike trails and any road cycling was on quiet roads with a cycle way. We managed 5 wineries in the 5 hours of hire and this included time for a superb lunch platter at Giesen.

The entire experience is highly recommended!
