Unfortunately the track was closed for the week we planned to walk it, so only walked to the first hut both ends. This was our second attempt to do it in the last 2 years, but we will return and conquer it eventually!!! A beautiful...More

The Routeburn is probably the most scenic 'managed' hike in New Zealand. It's less busy than the Milford and IMHO has better mountain scenery (and less bugs). I would recommend the self-guided huts which are excellent. Compared to American style backpacking the route is quite...More

The Routeburn Track is a 31 km long great walk. Start best from the Queenstown side. There s transport from Queenstown (8 am and 12.15 pm) to the start of the track. The first day is 3-4 hours uphill walking to Routeburn Falls Hut. There...More

The headline may be a tall order but as someone who has done their fair share of tramping in several countries (and most of the great walks), this is the best one I've ever done. That second day is as good a day's tramping as...More

I used to guide groups over the Routeburn Track. I have hiked it over 100 times and it remains my favourite. I rate it more spectacular than the Milford Track. To me the Routeburn has far more variety. The track takes in valley floors, sub-alpine...More

When we did the track there were a few fit people that were doing it in a day, looked like a long day but as you say you are fit it is very do-able. The track itself is wide and well marked.
