This 2 hour walk was led by Tupara, a knowledgable and engaging young guide. He observed tikanga at the beginning and end of the walk, and was open to questions throughout. He outlined his own tribal affiliation, and shared both traditional oral history and known...More

Brilliant experience. It was too cold and wet for us to be able to take the waka out. That didn't matter though, as the practice session inside was awesome. The team at Te Wharewaka o Poneke were so friendly, welcoming and patient, with so much...More

The people are so friendly and knowledgeable. We were there with a small group. They answered all our questions and treated us so nicely. A good way to begin a tour there

Really interesting tour, first a talk about the waka, or boats, and the chance to ask questions. And then a walking tour, learning about New Zealand and Wellington Maori history and legends. A unique experience.

As a Wellingtonian I still found I learnt a lot on this tour. The guide was engaging and interesting and I really enjoyed it despite bad weather. It would be fabulous on a good day walking around the waterfront.
