I really like this sauna and have been a visitor there for many years. Most visits I have had have been enjoyable. Over time the sauna etiquette guidelines have changed and have included for some time now things like shower before sauna and pool use and keep conversation down.
Unfortunately today these guidelines were mostly ignored by several visitors there at the same time as me .... in addition underwear was being worn in the sauna and the pool : amazing that these people do not follow simple sauna 'rules'. I will not use the pool if users come straight from the sauna and jump in the pool and loud conversing between the sauna users is irritating.
The management need to enhance the signage to make sure the sauna and environs etiquette is both safe enjoyable for all and to react if loud conversations are obvious.

Had a great sauna session followed by a massage with Isidora. The sauna is a great heat, with plenty of space to lay down if you want to, and the showers and plunge pool are fantastic. The plunge is 6-7 degrees which was lovely and icy.
Everything was clean and other users were really considerate of each other. The staff friendly and attentive.
The massage with Isidora was the best massage I’ve had and I get a lot of massage. Being here for a mini break, Id fly back to Wellington just for that massage. 200% recommended.

Great experience! A real Finnish sauna. The staff are informative and the other people who go are all friendly! . Try the sauna and then the plunge pool too!. No one wears clothes, just a cloth around the waist but it’s how it’s done! Enjoy!

The best sauna in New Zealand by a country mile. Amazing 6 degree chilled plunge pool.
But it’s the staff that’s the real point of difference.
Tonight Taylor went the extra mile to look after my bookings for the next month nothing was too difficult for her. It’s the little things that make the experience such a pleasure and keep me coming back week after week.

All I wanted was to check the availability of massages and float pod sessions today. The 2 options I had to ascertain this information were: 1. Register with the website and create a log-in 2. Call and ask. The former was tedious and a bit over the top for a simple check of availability in my opinion. The latter only works if there's someone at the other end to pick up. I gave up after 6 attempts at calling. If this is the level of customer service I can expect before walking in the door maybe it's for the best I couldn't book.

My apologies for your obvious frustrations.
We are limited with our booking system options here in NZ with regards to how many services we offer (and what can handle our needs). We have no options regarding the operating system of the registration and log in for users.
With regards to calling and not getting an answer we are challenged with staff at present due to being in a very testing portion of a pandemic outbreak in our country. A bit of understanding would have been greatly appreciated. We most certainly would have called or emailed you back. And I can absolutely assure you that you would have been looked after 100% +++. If you check out our other reviews we very much pride ourselves in our attention to customer care. Our wonderful staff are doing their very best given the current situation.
It's a shame you felt so unhappy that you had to provide this 1 star review in such challenging times.

I have been going to the amazing Pascaline for over a year… I cannot recommend her enough, she goes to great lengths to ensure you have a relaxed and enjoyable massage.

I had an intuitive Balinese massage with Suz. It was incredible, she uses great techniques and massages the whole body including feet and hands. The essential oils used were beautiful too, highly recommended. Sauna beforehand was wonderful too. I went on aTuesday which is women only.

I visited the Retreat a number of times during a long holiday in Wellington. The sauna is European style, i.e. expect nudity of both sexes and an atmosphere about as sexual as an afternoon tea party on the vicarage lawn. The management ask patrons to wear a towel round the waist, but on my visits this was largely ignored by both sexes, the lighting in the sauna is subdued anyway and when showering and using the plunge pool everyone is naked.
A great experience one I shall repeat on my next visit.

I visited Tory Urban Retreat for the first time for a 45 minute massage and 30 minute sauna.
I went on a “mixed” day and was the only woman at the sauna, but did not feel at all uncomfortable. All the other (dude) patrons were courteous and kept to spa rules. The sauna was spacious, clean, and relaxing. The plunge pool was great, and there are lounge chairs to rest in.
The massage I had was first rate. There were towels instead of linens, but this wasn’t a big deal (particularly for the cost). The masseuse was highly skilled. This was the best massage I’ve had in Wellington.
I thought about giving this four stars, as the facility is a bit bare bones, but for the price point (30 min sauna, towel hire, and 45 min massage for $74), cleanliness, professionalism, and ease of atmosphere, it gets top marks.
I plan to visit regularly. A hidden gem in Wellington.
