2 Day Fallow Deer Hunt
What a great Boys weekend. we had a group of 5 with various experience levels with both hunting and rifles,
Matt and Jose where great teachers on the tricks of hunting fallow deer for those of us that where first timers. Must admit they both have the patients of saints with the two younger members and eyes like hawks to spot them at times.
Great atmosphere and enough food to feed an army. If your looking for a boys or family weekend i would recommend this trip to anyone.
we all came away with having had an awesome weekend, a good sized deer and some great memories. Look forward to doing it again in the summer.

Top tour guides. Great dogs. Stunning scenery. Amazing hunt. Stuck our first pig and shot a goat. Bring on the roasts and curry.

Myself and my freind decided to go for a fallow deer hunt in wanganui on one of their blocks was great they picked me up from home on way up north when we got to the block we saw deer within 20min didnt take a shot at these as they took off before we could set up so off we went 10 min later i saw a solo hind a fair bit away we got bit closer and ranged it at 188m as being a hunter already i was ok taking a shot at that distance before they set up my video cam i took the shot 7mm08 did the trick one shot down she went had long walk round gully head to get to it but so happy all field dressed for us by them next was my mates turn as he went off up a gully with the guild but he came back with one both so happy filled up freezer with nice fresh meat
About a year later we done a freerange pig hut in the hills of Wellington full day hunt met themat the block for hunt hopped on the quad bike and rode around abit got off and done some walking towards afternoon we got 1 pig but we let it go as was bit small for what we wanted overall i will be heading out with them again very soon A+++++++++++ top efforts boys keep it up

Authentic pig hunt with experienced guides. Also nabbed a goat on the way home. Our group were first timers and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thanks Matt, Brent & Chris.

I was in Wellington with a couple of days spare. Contacted Matt and he worked out an itinerary to take in the things that I wanted to do - hunting and fishing. Had a great couple of days; spectacular scenery, interesting stuff to do, some laughs, finished off by an exciting pig hunt through some of the toughest terrain that you can imagine. It was a memorable couple of days. Matt is a nice guy who is flexible and seems to try to make sure that the client is getting what they want.

Went out with Matt and Simon on a great night of fishing in the Wellington area. They were very accommodating, fixing my boyfriend and I up with an evening trip around our tight schedule (even picked us up at our hotel!). They tailored the trip to our goals and put us on a great spot, we were reeling up blue cod as soon as our hooks hit the bottom. Had our fun with that then when the time was good for diving Matt and Simon both jumped in the frigid water and grabbed us a full haul of lobster ("crayfish" in NZ). On the way in we saw some birds diving and Simon made a few passes, hooking us up on a couple kahawai to round out the box! Finished the trip with a gorgeous sunset as we drove in. We went home happy with a bag of fish fillets and lobster for dinner.
Would highly recommend this team for fishing in Wellington and would love to check out some of their other adventures, which include multi-day hunting trips all over New Zealand! Seem like great guys who really know their stuff. The prices are also highly competitive.

After several weeks of emails between myself in VIrginia and Matt in NZ, we scheduled a pig hunt for my husband Gregg. I was thrilled that Matt and Chris were so helpful working around our visit to the north island. Gregg had a fabulous time and that made me very happy. Here is Gregg's testimonial.
" I hunted pigs with Chris after he met me in Masterton on the North Island on Jan 13, 2018. After hunting with hounds for years here in the states, I wanted to experience this in NZ. Chris is a very knowledgeable guide and dog handler; his dogs are well trained and were very active in pursuit. When they found the pig they truly had the grit to get the job done. It was a great hunt. If you have the chance to hunt with Total Safari Ne Zealand, I would jump at it. We are planning a return trip next year and I will look forward to joining them for another hunt. Thanks again for a great experience! "

My husband went fishing with Matt one afternoon late Feb 2017. He had a wonderful time and has recommended Total Safari to other people we met while in New Zealand. Matt knew where to find the fish and how to catch them. They caught several good Snappers as well as other species. My husband really enjoyed the fishing, being on the ocean and visiting with Matt. If you're in the area and like to fish or hunt, I highly recommend Total Safari. They are really good people and will work with you to provide you with the experience you are looking for and you'll have a great time!

The guides are experienced hunters that know their stuff and are only to happy to share their knowledge. Great hospitality and amazing patience.
We set a pretty hard target of 7 of our party all wanting a deer of our own and they put us on the spot each time to smash it! Then we ate like kings!!
Great experience, I would recommend these guys to beginners and the experienced alike.
Looking forward to the next hunt!

First time hunting and decided to try in Wellington, New Zealand. First tried hunting for pigs, goat, sheep in a private land. Lots of hills, trees, shrubs to run around. The animals were so quick I had no chance to get one on the first day. Matt got 2 wild sheep. Lots of fun but was tired out after a full day of driving 4 wheelers, and running through shrubs.
Matt and Chris went above and beyond and got me a place to stay for the night for an early hunt on the 2nd day for red stag deer.
Had two tries and got close to shooting a deer but missed it. Last chance or I would come home empty so handed the rifle to Matt and he got a nice female deer.
It was a great experience, tiring, and lots of jogging, running through shrubs, and crawling on the ground to sneak up on the animals.
I learned what I need to do as a beginner hunter now. I would recommend bringing rain gear, good hiking shoes or rain boots, go to a shooting range before hunting and practice with a good center fire rifle like a 300 WinMag. I realized I was cross eye dominant and that made it difficult to adjust until the very last moment and didn't shoot any animals on this trip. The animals are very quick to see or smell you and run and hide, practice shooting at targets quickly. Great price and experience.
Would like to do again during a different time of year. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to hunt in New Zealand. Matt and Chris really know what they are doing.
