Join the locals for coffee or better still, lunch, at the Maranui cafe. The views could not be outdone, and the food is excellent. Try the salads. They are perfect blends of flavour. Watch the crazy locals surfing, in wetsuits on a freezing day
We actually stayed overlooking Lyall bay during some fairly stormy weather. It was dramatic watching the aircraft and wind/kits surfers challenging the forces of the wind and sea. It was beautiful looking our to the mouth of the harbour and seeing the shipping movements

This was an interesting part of the city to visit during winter. The crashing waves were mesmerising from the car and we took a plethora of photos. We also enjoyed our bracing walk to the dairy on the foreshore, The Wellington air was certainly fresh.
