Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a fine public space which will be even better when the earthquake strengthening work is completed on the Carillon and the Hall of Memories. There are a number of unique war memorials including the red sandstone Australian and British oak and pohutukawa shelter. But for me the words of Ataturk on the Turkish memorial are perhaps the most moving. Don't miss the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior and the 'Man with the Donkey' sculpture up the stairs towards the Carillon. At the moment you'll only need 20-30 minutes to have a good look around the site. Well worth it if you find war memorials moving places.

We would har about Anzac Day frequently throughout our stay in New Zealand and Australia. Retrospectively I can tell you this was the best memorial we would visit. It not only honors those who lost their lives during World War I in Galipoli but also memorializes New Zealand heroes from the World War II, the South African War, the Vietnam War. the Korean War and battles in Malaysia.
There are a number of areas around the park commemorating various events and people. And in December 2018 a special memorial recognized the men and women of the United States who were in New Zealand to protect it from the enemy during World War II.
The park is worth a visit and some reflection.

A poignant site for remembering World War I. We took an Uber from the CBD. It is a short 10 minute drive. The main building is not open due to renovations. You can see the memorial contributions of several countries. Doesn't take more than 10 minutes but well – worth seeing. Check out my reviews of other tourist sites in Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Brisbane. Feel free to give me a like if you like this review. There is a Salvation Army thrift store across the street if you are interested.

This is a beautifully designed place to remember the Fallen from the various wars and conflicts which NZ servicemen and women have been involved with from South Africa to Afghanistan. The plaques and displays are there to tell of our involvement without fuss and without sentimentality. There is also a Book of Remembrance containing the names of the Fallen and I gather this place is also a resource for those seeking to acquire a bit more background about family members who have served in the Armed Forces. There was a helpful curator on duty when I visited who was able to answer some of my questions about the memorial. It was a sobering time but also hugely worthwhile.

A visit to the capital of New Zealand is not complete without a visit to War Memorial Park. An easy walk up Taranaki st towards the hills from Courtney Place. The carillon is an outstanding architectural feature, flanked by the impressively imposing Dominion Museum building currently home to Peter Jackson's Great War Exhibition.( an absolute must see). Australians would be interested to see the Red Stone Memorial, which acknowledges the contributions ANZACS made together in the theatre of war. See the stunning tomb of the unknown warrior and if there at 5pm, be part of he Last Post as the flags are lowered for the day. Poignant and memorable.

The memorial is incredible and the museum a place to visit.
The entrance which is as if one is boarding a ship is different.
The displays and models very good.
The horror of war and the loss of one's so young is never to be forgotten.

This is definitely worth a visit. Inside a beautiful building is a memorial for all the people who served New Zealand in World War One. It has some good history as well.

Always a sobering place, as it should be, but the new park and monument out front has raised it to another level. Simply marvellous public design and execution. Congratulations to all involved. A beautiful place.

A great memorial to be proud of. A long time refurbishing/rebuilding but now something every New Zealander should be proud of.
