Booked a cottage at Ngawi to catch up with offspring and partners. Decided to earn some food and a beer by walking to the pinnacles. Sunny day so running shoes all that was needed. Boots advisable if wet and slippery. Some great rock formations, suggest...More

It may not look like much from the side of the road but this is an absolute gem of a place. Incredible rock formations and beautiful views - even stretching to the South Island on a clear day. Truly incredible. Climb to the top and...More

The Pinnacles are a little known and visited rock formations on the Cape Palliser Rd. Walk in from the coast road, and be dwarfed by these huge towering rock formations. They are awe inspiring !!

Me and a group of eleven friends took the hike to the top and slept in the cabin for a night to catch the sunrise early in the morning. I myself am not an experienced hiker so it was fairly tough but very rewarding and...More

Even if you're not a fan of Peter Jackson's films (he has used this place many a time for a filming location) it is definitely worth the drive and walk up the river bed to see these surreal natural rock formations. The main path goes...More

I have often heard of this hike and always thought you had to do it over a day or 2. A nutty mate of mine decided we could easily do it in a day trip. Set off from home at 0600 as it is a...More

We were determined to visit the Putangirua Pinnacles during our recent week in South Wairarapa and after missing out on our first try because of horrible weather, we headed down from Martinborough on our last afternoon. (No great burden, as that whole road to Cape...More

Walking in amongst the rock pinnacles is an absolutely amazing experience, not to be missed. I explored a couple of the branches up as far as I could and there was still much further to go. It's such an incredible, visually spectacular experience. Definitely recommend...More

I can't be sure of the distance. Perhaps 2km with the last section quite steep but pathways are manageable.
