Absolutely stunning beach on a sunny day. We took soccer balls and other outdoor games and had a blast on the fields near the shop. Kids went for a dip and had a blast. Parking can be tricky so good to go early to secure parking

Perfect for a day trip. Felt like we were ‘on holiday’ but it was less than half an hour on the ferry. The kids loved the boat ride, had fish and chips on the beach, a visit to the shops and Tartines cafe in Eastbourne and then icecream back on the wharf on our way back to the CBD.

I did the explore hole in the rock dolphin tour with my 2 children. The staff were very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The boat captain was informative, funny which made the tour very enjoyable. We saw the Cape Brett light house and went through the hole in rock, twice, and disembark at Otehei Island. I recommend a walk up to the mountain top to see the amazing views and the sheep. I highly recommend this tour you certainly get value for money. Thank you explore tours.

The ferry ride over was nice. About a half . There is a lovely beach and some food available there. We walked into the town (about 1.5 miles) but there was very little of interest to tourists. We took an Uber back to the beach.

We took the ferry over from Wellington's waterfront. We wanted to get rental bikes and the main place to do so is the Bikeshed over in Pencarrow, about 3.5 kms away. You can take a bus from Day's Bay, but it is also possible to get cruiser bikes from the Boatshed near the Day's Bay Wharf. We did this, and had the option to swap them for mountain bikes once we reached the Bikeshed (same company). However, the cruiser bikes were comfortable and worked fine, so we just kept the same bikes and rode them all the way out to the Pencarrow Lighthouse and back. Then had lunch at the Chocolate Days Cafe and took the ferry back.

Take a break from busy Wellington by doing this easy ferry trip to Days Bay. Quite good place to stroll with some cafes along the beach front road, Marine Drive. Really good place to relax, when the weather is good and calm, not in windy time though. At the weekend, start the first ferry at 10am from Queens Wharf to this place, arrive 10.40am, spend your time on this place until 3pm for catch the ferry back to Queens Wharf. And, if you wish and have time, you can add extra stop and spend at Matiu/Sommes Island for 1hr 20 minutes before heading back to Queens Wharf, catch ferry at 4.40pm, back to Welly beach front by 5.05pm. Or spend your whole day here until the last ferry back to Wellington waterfront at 5.30pm, and you can explore Eastbourne Village, and East Harbor Regional Park up to Pencarrow Light House with bicycle. Full day adventure.

Days Bay is easily reached from Wellington city by catching the ferry from Queen’s Wharf. It’s a peaceful harbourside suburb, a complete contrast from the city. The beach is very popular for swimming and sailing in the summer, and people fish off the end of the wharf year round. During the summer months, the boatshed hires kayaks and mountain bikes if you’re the active sort.

Across the road from the beach is Williams Park, from which several paths lead up the hill to viewpoints over Days Bay. I walked the Koromiko loop, just over half an hour through tranquil green bush, up to a lookout with a very welcome seat. The path was steep in parts, but well-maintained. Despite recent heavy rain it wasn’t too boggy or slippery. In the flat part of the park is a duck pond and, if you didn’t bring anything to feed the ducks, the café sells bags of duck food.

Besides the café in Williams Park, there are other cafes and a restaurant. A couple of places sell Rush Munro ice cream, considered one of New Zealand’s best ice creams, and definitely worth trying. There’s also an arts and crafts gallery with some nice things if you’re looking to buy gifts and souvenirs.

While it’s possible to spend a whole day over this side of the harbour, a half day visit is pleasant if you’re pressed for time.

This was a quiet excursion to the other side of Wellingtons harbour as come late march most of the local business owners shut shop, pack up, lock the doors & leave till the next spring time. So most places are closed with the exception of the Gallery in the middle of Eastbourne & dairy, butcher, etc but I know from previous visits that this side of Wellington hum's in the summer, all the eateries are open, the bars are full, there is people everywhere including the beach, it's all go but that was not the case last week.
So if you can wait till at least Octtober or later to visit

On a wet spring day we travelled over by ferry from Queen's Wharf. Alighting from the ferry we walked down the uncovered wharf at Days Bay to find basically nothing but an amenities block, a cafe and a bus stop. There are frequent buses to Eastbourne and also to Petone. We caught the bus to Eastbourne which has. a few shops and a cafe. We then caught the bus back to Petone which was far more interesting and finally a bus back to Wellington. For the buses we were able to get a "Valley Flyer" day pass which meant we could get on and off buses as we pleased.

We were put off by the slow service of the pavillion, but were really delighted with the art shop. Had a great time looking about there. We also walked to eastbourne and saw some lovely and interesting houses. Probably should had gone when it was warmer, but a good day out to get there
