When we visited the art gallery the exhibits I thought were terrible. How can blank white mean anything or a tyre and chair, used paint tins piled on top of each other.
An office cubicle and a car with a chandelier in it.
However there were two maori paintings I did like. Just as well it was free.

It was the first time entering since last year. I managed to see the current bi-exhibitions this month. It was amazing with integrating Maori customs and Photography together. Thus, there is psychology involved with tactile art. Moreover, the energy was intense and touch me emotionally. There is an old saying 'picture tells a thousand words.'

We went to the hilma af klint exhibition and it was brilliant. We were there for the 12:15 tour and this really made the whole experience - would definitely recommend going for a tour as you learn so much more. Unfortunately I can’t remember your guides name otherwise would deeply recommend him.

A great place to call in and see some examples of local artists' work. We ended up buying a piece from one of the artists and had it signed. Great place to spend some time.

Hi guys
We went there after visiting Te Papa and the Parliament Buildings and did not meet my expectations to be totally honest.
The positive things: The coffee house is really pretty with a really delicate and tasteful menu (try the dulce de leche dessert delicious!!!), the fake garden grass is great to chill on a sunny day (we did it and was amazing!), the hand statue on the roof of the building is so cool.
The things that could be improved: There were two expositions when we were there, the first one about airports and terminals, the CGI movie was fun other than that kinda of boring, not my thing I guess, plenty of empty spaces from one art piece to another. The second exposition was a photography show, not many art pieces and again plenty of empty spaces not being used, gift shop is really small.
I was planning to be there for 2 hours and I finished everything the gallery tour in about 35min.
There is plenty of potential in the building, hopefully they will have more eye catchy, edgy and entertaining expositions for our next time.
Kind regards

Great space and brilliant staff but not the strongest exhibition this July.
On the bright side some excellent video in the cinema but overall far from amazing.

We went to the City Gallery on a rainy day in Welly. Entry is free and the exhibition was nice. Staff is extremely friendly. Would definitely recommend.

It is a lovely space with friendly staff. The exhibitions are all temporary, so you do not know what you are going to get. The stuff that I saw did not really appeal to me, but it may be different next time.

Perhaps it was just the exhibition that happened to be on when I visited, but I found the show entitle 'Unravelled' to be simply trying too hard to be different. it's wearying. Why can't people just paint pictures anymore? That said, if I lived in Wellington, I might come back another time and have a completely different reaction depending on the work on display. The Gallery also has a cafe and a gift shop, and it's free.

We were able to spend only an hour here as they were closing for the day but the exhibits were well presented and thought provoking. The Maoiri and other local artists work is well represented.
