The Weta Cave is your gateway to two incredible film-making experiences in Wellington, New Zealand. From Lord of the Rings to Avatar: our Weta Cave Workshop Tour reveals how me make the props, costumes, creatures and models from your favourite films. Catch a glimpse of artists at work on our tour stage and peek through windows that look directly into the workshop itself! Ever wanted to visit a real shooting stage? Blast off on our Miniatures Stage Tour to see the unbelievable Weta Workshop models and miniatures built for the popular TV series, Thunderbirds Are Go! A cavern of creativity, the Weta Cave shop also boasts collectibles designed by the artists at Weta Workshop, prop replicas, apparel, jewellery, books and more. While you’re here, take a seat for a free film about the history of film-making on the Miramar Peninsula. It screens throughout the day.

This is a place where you can find many figures, especially Lord of the Ring and Hobbit. Movie fans must visit this place. Booking available through i-site.

This place is a gem, as cool as it would be to see more on the tour I understand how it must be protected and what we are shown gives a good sense of what goes on around the sizeable premises. Our tour guide was...More

In the same trip I visited Hobbiton, and I had much more fun there. However I can see how someone who is a movie buff and super into Lord of the Rings would enjoy the Weta tour. It was a lot of standing in one...More

If you just visit the Weta Cave, you will be hugely disappointed as it is only a shop with a three minute video alongside. However, they now do workshop tours which run every hour for Weta and also there is another tour for Thunderbirds which...More

Whether you are a movie buff or not, this tour is well worth it. It gives a great insight into how movies are created and sets/props made
