Great flavoured gins, vodkas etc
Jan 2019 • Couples
Great bar with a huge rage of flavoured spirits. Had the lemongrass and ginger gin and the pink watermelon gin. really tasty although I would probably preferr d with a good quality mixer (where is Fever Tree in NZ except for a he bar next door!)

Great Little Bar
Aug 2018 • Friends
We stopped in here for a drink whilst touring the city with our friend. The atmosphere is fantastic, it offers sanctuary from the hectic nature of the Main Street on a Saturday night. With that said, the bar is still lively, the staff friendly and knowledgeable and the drinks on offer are just cool. On recommendation, I tried the salted caramel infused rum and it was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be visiting again sometime soon!

Best Cocktails in Wellington!!!
Jul 2018 • Friends
So glad we found this bar, my friends and I had a blast!!!

It's great to escape the Courtenay Place madness and actually have a conversation you can hear while enjoying such creative cocktails...ask the bartenders to go off the menu and you will not be disappointed.

The atmosphere and music is amazingggggggg.
Will be back ASAP Rocky :)

Gin Haven
May 2018 • Friends
So I'm generally a cocktail/wine gal and not big on strong spirits - but I went here with a friend and joined her in trying some of the infused Gin neat! I had the gingerbread gin and it was honestly incredible, the flavour was perfect and it was easy to sip at.

We sat at the window so we had a view down courtenay place, and the staff were so lovely and helpful it was a perfect atmosphere. Definitely want to head back and work my way through the menu.

I love this place and is often the last place I visit before heading home for the night. The infused Rum and Gins are sensational. Salted caramel is a favourite. I'm not a cocktail drinker but have been in there with a few who have absolutely loved them, especially the one that has chilly oil in it, I tried this and it gives you a great lingering hit of chilly after each sip, very cleaver and ohh sooo gooood.
You can easily pass this place by as the door is slightly set back off the street. When on Courtney Place, seaward side of street, just past Tory Street, heading towards the Embasy, squeezed in between the Malt House and Cafe Baba.

Obviously a bit 'hit and miss' depending on staff serving...

It’s another one of those hidden Wellington cocktail bars that you might have walked past and never knew where the stairway lead to. Right in the heart of Courtenay Place (where all the action is) this bar has a commanding view from its first floor open windows over Courtenay Place. The bar is small, bare chunky timber beams above you, older mismatch of wooden table and chairs – the sort you used to sit on in the classroom no less. Its quaint, a bit quirky in a good way where you can indulge in all manner of rum cocktails plus a selection of other drinks should you prefer. I would say drink prices are fairly good value compared to others in town I’ve experience. Probably the only downside on our visit was the extremely slow table service to take our orders followed by the extremely slow service to actually get our drinks order – when the place was basically empty. In other words customer service is not a strong point here, at least for our table of 4.

Amazing atmosphere!!
Dec 2017 • Friends
My friends and I had visited CGR a couple of months ago and the nights couldn’t have been any better! The ambiance is incredible and the music seems to always fit the energy of the bar.
But the drinks though...
The bar is full of jars filled with specially infused booze and the drinks they can make with them are out of this world!
Try the toasted coconut/chocolate infused rum on ice or ask the American bartender to make you a cocktail using the infusions, he will not disappoint!
All in all amazing little bar, will frequent as much as possible!

Best bar in New Zealand
Nov 2017 • Friends
Dear CGR. First and foremost, I love you. Your cocktails make my head dizzy, but in a good way, not like a tilt-o-whirl run by questionable carny folk. What I'm trying to say, is, they are strong to quite strong. There was a lad, he said he was growing his bun out, I'm not sure which one he meant, but he made a MEAN f'in cocktail mate. Off menu, to suit my eclectic needs. Who knew popcorn and liver went so well together. He did. Just kidding. He made me a ruby grapefruit negroni. It made me reminisce about my magical night in transit in a shiphouse to a tropical island... then again, that could've been the decor. All in all, this review was silly, but CGR is not. It's the bomb. Stop your search and go right now.

C.G.R, Quite Exceptional
Aug 2017 • Friends
So we came over from Australia and hired the wunderfilled C.G.R Merchant & Co for a brilliant birthday gathering. The coolest and most unique drinks/cocktails around....thanks to the huge array of gorgeous and interesting gin and rum infusions made by the expert bartenders (Charlie, Louis, thanks so much), poured to perfection, who really know their stuff. The bar itself is perfect too, dim lighting / candles, coolest music at just the right volume, nothing was a problem, super helpful peeps, it was faultless really. If you haven't already, you really should check out something quite exceptional.
