Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Everything about this tour was perfect from being picked up on time to being dropped back off at the port. Nickoletti (sp) was interesting, helpful, considerate and all around, a great guide/driver. She showed us several sites as well as taking us to the Hobbiton Tour Set and ensuring we got where we needed to be on time. Hobbiton was out of this world and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Never a dull moment and the gift shop was filled with great treasures. Definitely would do again and highly recommend!

Nicolle provided us with a wonderful trip to Hobbiton. We had 10 people on the tour so it was a very manageable group. We had time to purchase something for lunch at the Hobbiton cafe before entering the grounds. A bit too early for us to eat, we saved it for our stop at the Green Dragon, which worked out great. Nicolle found all of our group members to distribute the tickets & give instructions for boarding the tour bus. Once on the large bus, a Hobbiton tour guide escorts you through the set. Even if you’re not a LOTR fan (like me), you can enjoy the beautiful vistas. Nicolle was waiting for us when we got off the bus & away we went to see some other sites. It was great dealing with a small company for a more personalized experience.

excelent attention to detail, small group of 10 Water bottles placed on each seat. Mobility an issue & a step for entering & exit the minibus, just there not to be asked for & on our orchard visit he had a seat for me in the shade. Russell it is the little things that count the most, best trip ever,,
Thanks

Our guide Russell was a local man who was at the pier to greet us. The tour showed us around the town of the "Mount", beaches, harbour, the adjoining community of Tauranga, working port, shopping precinct. We then headed out from there to a honey producing company and samples the famous Manuka honey and other blends. Coffee break welcome. Then to a small farm seeing avocado trees laden with fruit (no sample sadly). We did though sample the oil from same. Following this we headed to another farm producing the famous Kiwi fruit and were told about the two main varieties (green and gold Kiwi fruits). Overall I enjoyed the tour and found Russell to be an engaging and helpful guide, but we (as older persons),found getting in and out of the mini bus a bit of a challenge. I enjoyed the visit to the greenhouse on the harbour, but would have liked to go inside the old missionary complex instead of looking from the street.

Hi Gail, Thank you for your review. I'm glad you did enjoy yourself on the history and tasting tour of Tauranga. To address the points you have raised: * Tauranga does not currently have an Avocado display orchard like the kiwifruit industry does and the avocado orchard that I am allowed to take the tour to is privately owned. Consequently we are not allowed to touch the fruit. Hence my having the selection of Avocado oils that guests can try with the bread I have provided. * I do provide a step for passengers to get in and out of the van and do request passengers liaise with me prior to booking if there is any mobility issues, which most people with concerns have taken the opportunity to do so. I am happy to seat people up front if required as that appears to be better for those with hip troubles etc. * I understand you were frustrated that you didn't get to go into the Elms mission station as you had missed the opportunity once before when you were in Tauranga. I have been to Paris twice and have missed out on going to the Louvre both times because of the people I was traveling with so no-one understands your frustration better than I do. This wasn't brought up prior to departure or I would have addressed it at the time. The tour is constructed around giving an overview of the Tauranga area with the highlights being the Manuka Honey factory and the Kiwifruit orchard which is what most people generally book the tour for. To include entry into the Elms would add expense to the price of the tour and time to the length of the tour or it would be included at the expense of another stop. I am working on a later tour for next season that will hopefully include the Elms. Thanks again for your feedback and I hope to see again at some stage in the future. Regards, Russell

Wow, this trip was excellent. Russell was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We saw our ship from several different view points, visited a beautiful garden, saw incredible trees, several stunning beaches, homes that were gorgeous, stopped at a lovely tea shop and amazing bakery/restaurant. Wow, the food was incredible! We highly recommend the cream puff pastry and corn fritter but everything looked incredible. After that we got to go to a kiwi orchard which was a highlight for me! We samples delicious kiwi and avacado. The drive was smooth and we could not have had a more informative and enjoyable tour. And what's more, we got back to the ship early enough to walk around at the port and enjoy pool time on ship.

Mum and I thoroughly enjoyed our day out. The tour guide picked us up from our accommodation and took us back the end of the day. The tour guide was very informative and we learnt a lot about redoubts, kiwifruit and avocados. We enjoyed our fish and chip lunch at Maketu. Would recommend this tour to others.

I enjoyed this tour quite a bit. Russel was very well informed and professional. The stop at the Elms was great. The history of Tauranga was very informative and the grounds were stunning. The stop at the kiwifruit farm was also good and informative. Other stops to here history and to look at the view were great. My only negative about this tour was the ship docked mid morning which meant the tour had a late start and there was no lunch break and we were very hungry by he time we got back at 3pm. The stop at the farm we got to try some kiwifruit and avocado but it's not enough. We were provided with a bottle not water which was appreciated but I think some amendments could be helpful when the tour has a late start. Overall this was a great tour and would definitely recommend it.

Hi Sharyn, Thank you for your review. This tour normally goes to the Clark Road business hub where we visit Webster's teas and have a stop for lunch at the café opposite. Unfortunately they decided to close during Christmas and New Year so I organised the Tour through the Elms mission station instead. As it is a busy time of year I was limited on booking times for the Elms and as you have said your ship was later coming in, which made it hard to juggle the different stops on the tour while having them still follow the historical timeline of the tour commentary without it becoming confusing. I am glad that you still enjoyed yourself none the less and will take your feedback on board for the next time we need to rework the tour itinerary.

We were staying just out of Tauranga for a few days and wanted to know a bit more about the background of Tauranga. Russell picked us up from our accommodation and gave us a brilliant 3 hr tour of the cities historic sights and Māori background. We learnt a lot and Russell made the trip very enjoyable. I would highly recommend the small and very personal Wicked Wanders tours.

Tour of Taurangi and surrounding suburbs. Russell was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the different cultures. He was easy to listen to and was very friendly. The smaller tour group is great alternative to the larger groups through the cruise ships.

Driver was amazing made us right at home along with informative commentary and laughter along the way. Enjoyed the extra bonuses of walking the track to the waterfalls along the way which were very spectacular.
Couldn’t rate the drive to Hobbiton highly enough. Thank you Russell for the tips at Hobbiton as well. You were spot on and it helped us enjoy the tour even more.
Thanks Wicked Wanders
