Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

BI had a beautiful experience in the gallery space right in the heart of downtown with interesting exhibitions of four New Zealand artists: Rita Angus, Hiria Anderson- Mita, Ron Te Kawa and Dream Girls Art Collective that have transformed the Gallery's atrium in a psychedelic world dominated by tree very big murals. Friendly staff and great presentation of artwork.

Always nice to visit regional galleries. Not large but a couple of nice spaces. As for the current exhibitions, while some will no doubt argue it's a case of correcting historical imbalances it must be hard to be a pakeha artist at the moment! We did like the bright and cheerful 'Folk Nationalism' exhibition.

Not a major draw, and we could have done with a street sign pointing the way.
Of the several small exhibitions we were very intrigued and impressed by the NCEA students' art work - some great talent on view. The time line on the Lake Alice abuse cases was sobering. There was one video exhibit which was so poorly labelled it was not clear what it was or how long the screening was. The Gallery is more of local interest than for tourists, but shows some real effort in providing variation in the exhibits.

At the time of our visit there was an exhibition of modern Maori carving intermixed with museum pieces of similar items. Very well presented and put together. There was also a a challenging display of recent art linked to a local competition. Well displayed and interest work

Although small, fresh new building with interesting collections of local artists and Maori culture. Very helpful staff.

This is a modern building with local art inside. We stopped on our stroll about town when we were off our cruise ship. Impressive for such a small town.

Small but perfectly formed gallery. Mr G Home exhibition is moving and informative. The recent Banksy exhibition was a highlight. Highly recommended.

I like most museums generally but this really didn't float my boat. A vast, cavernous building is sprinkled with a few, not very interesting Maori exhibits, from their early tools (good) to some modern nonsense taking up valuable wall space. Sorry, not for me.

This only gets three stars only because it's a small gallery with only three small exhibits-- relaxing 20-25 minute stop. I enjoyed it and it was worth visiting. The staff was helpful and directed me to gallery stores in the neighborhood.
