Kayaking to see the glowworms ended up being one of my favorite experiences during out time in New Zealand. It was such a fun and unique was of seeing the glowworms. I loved the small group size (we only had 4 people, but were told there was a max of 8). It felt more personal and intimate than the large tourism glowworm caves and for most of the night we were the only people on the water. Our guide was fantastic and really helped to make sure we had a great time. I really liked that this was at McLaren Falls and a natural state park in New Zealand. It's a smaller operation, but service was top-notch. I'd recommend this over the bigger glowworm caves.

Just had amazing experience kayaking in the dark to fabulous glow worm caves. Kopi was an excellent guide, very caring with my worried 7 year old. Really nice being with a small group, made it very personal and intimate. Kayaking wasn't too strenuous at all. It was so peaceful! Thank you!

Yes that's correct. You may get to see them in Waitomo or Te Anau, but to experience this way on your kayak on a peaceful night is so much more memorable. Kopi was so helpful and so energetic although we gave him hard time, as our rudder didn't seem to be working as intended. But he pulled us through when we were losing direction and gave us insight about glow worms in his very humorous way. One of the highlights of our NZ trip and that is something when NZ is full of wonders at every step. Thanks again Kopi (Hope I spelled the name right). PS: They provide you sort of gear to wear and that should keep you warm and dry.

I loved our special experience at Lake Mclaren with the nicest young guy in NZ. Tim is a Guinness Book of Records record holder for the longest distance paddled in open ocean in a 24 hour period. He has also circumnavigated both North and South NZ in his kayak, stopping at beaches and farms to camp. He designs and builds Kayaks for a living and is hugely knowledgeable about the sport and the Lake Mclaren area and its glowworms. Our initial booking was washed out by bad weather and Tim encouraged us to come back a few nights later to make sure we really had a positive experience. We appreciated the concern he showed in not wanting us to be cold and wet. We loved the quiet beauty of the lake and Kayaking was such a peaceful way to get to the Glow worms and view them. Tim did not hurry us and it felt like a very personal tour, with only my husband and his elderly parents in the group. Thanks again Tim.
