My husband & I went out fishing with Marty for 3 hours. He is so friendly & we learned a lot from him. He filled us in on some local history as well as his own New Zealand family history. We had such an enjoyable time but it went way too fast!
He is very calm & talked me through reeling in the fish. Since he grew up on the lake, he is very knowledgeable about fishing there. We caught 3 lovely keepers. We took 1 to get cooked at a restaurant for dinner. The other 2 we took to be smoked & vacuumed packed.
It felt good to know we were eating fish from such a clean lake. They say you can even drink Taupo Lake water, it is so clean!
The fishing trip with Marty was absolutely a highlight of our New Zealand adventure from the USA!

Absolutely epic morning out!! Marty is a complete superstar!! I wanted to go out fishing and was keen to take our wee three year old out but didn’t know if he would enjoy it or get a bit bored. Marty left it open as to how long we’d go out for which gave us peace of mind knowing that we had options. Within half an hour we were catching fish and the little man was loving it!!
Marty was incredibly patient with him and helped us get the little man to catch his first fish. The massive smile was worth the trip itself!!
Because we caught 5 fish in very impressive time Marty then took us for a wee scenic cruise to the carvings with young buck grinning from ear to ear and demanding that he “go faster”.
It was the absolute perfect morning and I cannot thank Marty enough. We’ll definitely be back!!

The #1 guide to book. We had such a great day booking a 1:00PM-4:00PM slot with two adults and two children.
Marty is an exceptional captain and definitely knows how to locate the fish. Caught our limit! Took some to a local butcher to Smoke for 12 hours before taking home. A local establishment in town cooked our fresh catch that evening as well to add to the fun.
Boat A+, Fishing Equipment A+, Captain A+
Thanks for the good time Marty, we will be back again.

What a fantastic morning out with Marty! We were novices, but just had a great time. The weather was in our favour and the boat stable and smooth on on the ride out. We could hardly believe it, catching 6 large rainbow trout within 2 hours. Marty was great. We also took our dog on board and she had a great time too - watching the fish jumping around in the water.. Really enjoyed it being just use two on a smaller boat.

Marty is a legend. A born and bred Taupo local who’s been fishing here since time began. Very knowledgeable, patient with my boys and after a slow start, put us onto 5 great trout. Beautiful boat, great gear, walk on/walk off... couldn’t imagine a better trip. Cheers

We spent 4 hours on the water with 3 young kids and Marty was able to hold their attention all that time.
Marty has a good sense of humour and was able to answer most of the kids’ odd questions. The kids managed to lose quite a few fish due to their intermittent reel winding but we ended up with 6 trout. Got them smoked at a butcher recommended by Marty.

We had four hours of fantastic fishing with a side trip to see the Maori rock carvings.
Marty was an excellent guide, knowledgeable and a lot of fun. The boat was very comfortable, but not so big that you're detached from the whole experience. We were also able to get one of the rainbow trout cooked at the Crafty Trout in Taupo for lunch which just topped it all off brilliantly.
We would highly recommend this as a great day out

My son (11) wanted to go fishing during our time in Taupo. We picked a morning cruise with Marty on his very clean boat. This was our first time fishing and didn’t know what to expect. Everything worked out perfectly. Marty was a great captain and walked us through everything. It was nice and easy. During our 2+ hour cruise we landed several large trout, put back a smaller one, and we even wound up with a story to tell about “the one that got away” from us. My son loved the whole experience. Overall a very successful outing with a very friendly and knowledgeable captain. Highly recommended!

Marty took our family of four ( 2 kids ages 7 and 11) on a wonderful 3 hr morning fishing trip on Lake Taupo. Landed 6 large rainbows and several got away. Was a perfect way to spend the morning. He even recommended a local pub called the Crafty trout where we were able to bring our fish to get marinated and cooked for us for lunch. Would highly recommend.

Highly recommended! Fun morning Marty who could give us (beginners, never had a fishing rod in our hands before) some good insights. We could combine that with seeing the rock carvings. We let half of our fishes go because they were too small and still had four beautiful trouts to eat in the end (after 3 hours)! Would do it again with Marty any time.
