About
Lake Taupo Hole in One Challenge is an iconic drop in tourism activity in the heart of Te Ika a Maui – the North Island. Established in 1993, the idea was born out of a conversation in a bar and written on the back of a beer coaster. In 2017 Lake Taupo Hole in One Challenge became the first tourism acquisition for local Iwi – Ngati Tuwharetoa. For over twenty-five years Lake Taupo Hole in One has averaged a hole in one every two weeks. Local’s, and Kiwi’s have repeatedly made this their ritual stop as they travel past and tourists from around the globe have been swinging by to hit golf balls a hundred meters out onto a floating pontoon on Aotearoa’s greatest inland sea – Lake Taupo. With the ultimate $10,000 cash prize on the Red Flag, a standard golf ball size hole and the White and Blue Flags which are sand bunkers with prizes gratefully sponsored by local tourism operators, hordes of people flock to take on the challenge in the hope of winning a hole in one!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

A unique experience I just had to try when we were there. A bit expensive in a sense, but when you factor in the lottery aspect of winning $10K, a worthwhile thing to try. No gimmicks and they have a club selection and options for how many balls you want to try. You should only pay the money if you want the experience, not because you think you are just a few swings away from $10K.

My husband is a keen golfer, but doesn't play much at all. Every time we visit Taupo he always has a go at the Lake Taupo Hole in One Challenge. Good price and friendly staff.

Travelled through Taupo - had to have a go 30 balls.
I was amazed to get a hole in one - win a great prize. Thought I had another but didn’t have time to stay; however what was amazing was that they rang later that day and confirmed the 2nd. They didn’t have to do this and I was asked to pop in on the way back and the awarded me another great prize - top quality hole in one challenge. Like many others around the world but the deserved top marks for the phone call.
However; I got a amazing two hole in one’s on one day.
Thank you

Yes, incredibly it is possible to do it. I did it yesterday on 19th February. Unfortunately their staff member wasn't watching. This is forgivable but they refused to check the hole and my prize was not given??????????? They said the ball would have gone down a tube and be visible in a glass box. They ruled out the possibility that the ball could be stuck in that tube because a man clears that tube every day. It was first thing in the morning and I know that man did not work that morning. So, yeah, I don't recommend this company because they have cheated me, knowingly or not.

Stopped by here to watch. Very interesting. Saw 3 boys aged under 14 hit some amazing balls. It was very inspiring and we were wiling them to make a hit. Irrelevant of the outcome this is an amazing event to stop and watch. NB there was a white flag winner earlier today so it is possible. OMG IMAGINE if you witnessed the red flag $10,000.00 winner (last one was 2020!)

Good fun but it would be a Jack Nicklaus/Greg Norman/Tiger Woods/Jason Day/Dustin Johnson combined talent shot to hole out for the 10k.
Don't let that detract you as there are 2 'easier' targets that you can ho,e out on and still win great prizes.
It's worth a go and who knows, you might get really lucky and really cashed up really quick.

This looks like it should be a lot easier than it is. From a distance, I was quite the expert, but once I gave it a go, yeah, not so much. At $1 a ball, it was a pretty good deal. Got 25 balls for $20 and shared between myself and my 11 year old. Great value I thought.

Wanna kill some time along the waterfront in the sweet sunshine?
Take a chance, whack some balls, watch your dreams go ka-sploosh into the lake.
Watch ambitious others do the same.
Good times, pretty views, Better with a cheerleader. But the locals are pretty encouraging.

Even experienced golfers will find this a challenge. The cost was $NZ15 for 18 balls and it's definitely worth having a go. Situated on beautiful Lake Taupo it's easy to find on Lake Terrace, which runs parallel with the lake front.

The hole in one golf really is great fun and you don't have to retrieve your ball!!
I've had 4 hole in ones now and I have to tell you the prizes are great the staff are always very friendly and are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to what's to do around Taupo.
But also I have to tell you it's very addictive you will love it.
And if you want to make a few bucks you can also dive for balls just ask the owner it's a blast!
I highly recommend this activity
