Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took two daughters, son, son-in-law and two grandsons (5 and 2 1/2) out trout fishing on Lake Taupo two days after Christmas between 11 am and 2 pm.

We had a marvellous time, hooking eleven rainbow trout, returning four small ones to the lake and keeping seven. The largest fish was over 5 lb (2.3 kg).

The boat, Bravado, was perfect for our trip. There was plenty of room and the boat was well appointed. The skipper, Nick Reed, was unobtrusive and low key but knowledgeable and friendly. He knew where to fish, was well organised and was kind and helpful.

Our grandsons were hooked and we were so pleased to have made the effort.

Nick's boat Bravado was perfect for the four of us. His boat was clean, the fishing tackle was in immaculate condition, had an on board toilet and tea and coffee making facilities. But that wasn't the best part. We landed 22 trout, some of which were around 4lbs in weight. Bravado had upstairs seating for great views. At the end of our 4 hour trip Nick cleaned the fish we wanted to keep and gave suggestions for a restaurant to have them cooked and a butcher to have one smoked. What a memorable day.

We had an excellent morning on the lake with Nick. Caught two large trout in the first few minutes. Ended up catching a total of seven fish, two of which we threw back. A local restaurant recommended by Nick deboned and cooked two trout for us (fed five people} and the rest were smoked and brought back to Sydney. There were only two of us so booked the smaller, and very comfortable boat. Great service. Highly recommend.

We had an outstanding time with the owner Nick. My girlfriend had gotten a bit sea-sick the evening before on the Ernest Kemp, and was a bit worried it would be too rough, but Nick took great care and tool us to a calm part of the lake. We caught 7 altogether (two at once at o e point), and kept one that we took right up to the Crafty Trout Brewing Co. (just up the street a block) to be cooked for our lunch. Nick was great, attentive, friendly, knew exactly what to do, and we had great conversation. Can’t recommend him too highly!

In one evening Skipper Nick managed to rack up both they best swim of my life and the best fish I’ve ever eaten! Our group caught 8 (!!) huge trout before cruising around to view the Maori carvings - a bunch of us leaped off the top of the boat while Nick worked some kind of culinary sorcery with brown sugar and a hot smoker - we dragged ourselves out of the water with the sun setting behind us and stood around, forks in hand, to taste what was hands down the freshest fish I’ve ever had - Nick is an absolute legend, and is just as happy helping you catch a massive trout as he is sitting back at the helm watching the lake cruise by - I can’t recommend this charter enough!

We arrived back in Taupo from a day of sight seeing too late to catch any of the regular boat cruises however as it was dull and cold (winter) and threatening rain and I wanted to see the maori carvings (we left the next day ) we inquired as to other options and ended up hiring Te Arani II to take us out there. The trip actually surpassed all our expectations (we thought it might be a bit cold and windy) as it was speedy, comfy and provided a great look around the lake as well as the cavings. The captain (Nick) was very pleasant and professional. Definitely a recommended way to see the lake.

Captain Nick …. Thank you. Amazing. A fantastic day out. Very professional, te Armani 11 boat was clean and very comfortable What a wonderful experience. We took 3 trout home, lost two that got off the hook and returned one little one. Well worth the money. I’d recommend to anyone.

We’ll overcharge for this old boat
The skipper has given no commentary and didn’t explain anything, no drinks (not even water) boring.
As far as the fishing, it was the most boring fishing I have ever done

Had lots of fun fishing this morning with guidance from Captain Nick! We caught 12 rainbow trouts and kept 9 (3 for dinner and the rest will be smoked and vacuum packed at the local butcher). This is the 4th time that we fish with Captain Nick over the last 10-15 years and will definitely recommend to others!!!

Enjoyable experience! We booked a 6hr fishing trip but the skipper also took us to see places around Lake Taupo he thought we would find interesting, including the Maori rock carving and waterfalls. Lunch was provided and was delicious! Caught plenty of trout which were bagged up for us to take home. Great day.
