Andrew took us newbies out for a morning of fly fishing near Tangariro National Park. We had looked into other fly fishing experiences and found them to either be prohibitively expensive or required us to bring our own gear. It was something we wanted to try and Andrew's rates were reasonable and he supplied us with everything we needed. He was not only a very knowledgeable guide, but he also didn't make us feel lesser for this being our first time out and that it was a bit of a lark. We had a great day - felt like we were in safe hands, learned so much and had far more bites than a newbie has a right to. The best part - aside from catching fish - was getting to know Andrew. Obviously, he is very knowledgeable about fishing, but he also is very likable and easy to talk with about any number of topics. He answered the hundreds of questions we had about life in New Zealand and he asked thoughtful and inquisitive questions about us. Andrew is a great guide!

We met Andrew through the owners of the River Birches. He was very pleasant as he picked us up on time. We spent 2 hours on the river and with his help even caught one that we released. He did have a chance to teach us a few pointers. A fun couple of hours.

One of the highlights of our 3 week visit to New Zealand! We only booked a half day fishing trip but caught plenty of fish. We hadn't fly fished before but Andrew had us on the fish and casting well in a matter of minutes. We stayed at flat outside his home, he and his wife were excellent hosts. We cancelled our hotel the next night just to stay an extra day at taupe. Even had the opportunity to eat fresh smoked trout we caught that day! Highly recommend his professional and fun service. Thanks Andrew!

As I type this my Fiance and I are both gloriously full of the freshest trout we have ever eaten, and we eat a lot of fish! Not only did Andrew do his best to try to make sure we landed some fish but he was soft spoken and gentle with us first timers. We booked a half day fly fishing excursion and if money had allowed we would certainly have enjoyed packing a picnic lunch and spending the day by the creek. Andrew was prompt returning my call to book, sorted our licenses out for us on the fly, and provided well maintained, name brand gear all while being a heck of a nice guy. Don't think, just go fishing with Andrew!

I called Andrew to book a half day fishing trip for my husband. He was extremely helpful and accomodating with sorting out an appropriate time. He also organised accomodation in their fishing cottage for the night. On arrival the hot water wasnt going to be working till later that night, so he put us up in one of other houses for the night. The accomodation was a lovely home and exceeded our expectations!
My husband had a wonderful time fishing with andrew and came back with lots of grwat stories about their adventure and their catch!
Thanks Andrew for a lovely and pleasant stay and returning my husband a happy fisherman!

I booked a trip with Andrew for my husband as a gift after reading great reviews. Andrew responded promptly and even accommodated us to extend the voucher which was great. He confirmed the time for pick up the night before. Next morning, someone else pitched up on Andrew's behalf because he couldn't make it. The guide was still great, however, i spend a lot of time to read reviews and book a specific person for the perfect, not cheap gift. So a call would have been great. Also didn't receive any refreshments as advertised.

I spent 2 days fishing with Andrew. He put me on lots of fish, improved my casting, knew what terminal tackle to use, and was an all around great guy to spend time with. Highest recommendation!

I had the best day out with Andrew! I caught 5 beautiful rainbow trout, not to mention I caught my first ever trout on a fly! We went to some seriously stunning streams that were full of trout, honestly I would have had a hard time finding these hidden gems on my own. I highly recommend spending a full day out on the rivers with Andrew, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks matey

I recently booked Andrew for four full days of guided trout fishing around Turangi's majestic rivers. I researched a few trout guides to see what what was offered and to pick up a sense of their enthusiasm for their work. As I'm only 42 I was after a guide that was capable of trekking some serious rivers to get to the best fish, I didn't want to just stay close to Turangi because it was easy. I contacted Andrew and he was prompt in getting back to me and we worked out a plan for the four days. This included fishing the famous Tongariro and a few days fishing the back country rivers.
Each day was different including the weather and enjoyable. I learnt a lot from Andrew about casting, choice of flys, equipment, techniques for correctly mending line, reading the streams etc. I would describe myself as competent but by no means great and Andrew was patient and enthusiastic and we shared some great chats and laughs over the four days. For me I was after a guide I could book for years to come and Andrew has clearly built up some similar style clients that will continually seek his guidance on the waters to tap into his local knowledge. So whether it's for a half or full day or multiple days I'd recommend Andrew and you won't regret it!!! Thanks Andrew and I'll catch you for the silver bullet winter run next year!!!

Can you tell me the best time to come fly fishing with you? I'm an experienced fly fisher but I'm 67 years old NOW and can NOT hike a long ways or sleep on the ground. Please help!!
