We stayed at a hotel right on the Great Lake Taupo because we wanted to enjoy the views. We were not disappointed. On our two-day stay, we saw wonderful sunsets. At dusk, we also watched the lights go on at a city across the lake....More
Taupo is a beautiful lakeside with views out to the mountains. There are walkways located all around the lake so you can walk for as long or as short as you like. Conveniently the town is located near the lakes edge (2-3 minutes walk away)....More

Great place to bring overseas visitors. Mt Ruapehu is majestic at the best of times but just beautiful against the blue lake. lots to do and see.
Lake Taupo is so beautiful! There is so much to do. We did a kayak trip, took a helicopter ride, rode jet boats and ate meals overlooking the lake. Definitely worth checking out!
Looking down from the approach is breathtaking. Huge and humbling. Lots to do around the lake but you will need a car to reach everything, well worth a visit.
I just LOVE swimming in Lake Taupo. I love the clear water. I love the view. I love that it's refreshing. I love the way the ducks swim up to say 'hello'.
