Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For the price (FREE!) you really can't beat it. Fun playground and some cute animals. Only one Capybara was there, but there were a couple of tortoises, monkeys and otters. The bird cage where you can walk through had some very colourful birds. Recommend if you're in town with kids.

Popped into visit this little gem of a Zoo - mostly clean, heaps of parking, on the edge of a huge Park. It just felt underwhelming, a lot was under going reno's or closed. Great play gound in the middle, our children spent time there, than looking at the animals.

A great place to visit, with or without children. We have been here several times now, and always enjoy the zoo. It is small, but there are enough animals to keep you interested. Amazingly it is free. There is a coffee/icecream cart there and toilets.

Love this little zoo. What a gem..the kids enjoyed the playground and getting close to the capybaras. The zoo staff were friendly and the animals seemed happy and really well looked after. The animals had lovely enclosures that looked stimulating and well looked after. We'll be back again.

This is a super little zoo with some charming residents. Especially loved watching the Meercats and the monkeys. A nice playground and picnic area too. Plus great proximity to Pukekura Park - just across the road.

Have visited here twice now with our grand daughter when we visit New Plymouth. Great variety of animals/birds for children to get up close to and also a playground for them. Great that it is free - a real asset to New Plymouth.

Beautifully curated specialised zoo. Walk through aviary with some gorgeous parrots and all of the animals are well cared for and in good condition. There’s a fab play park in the centre for the kids and you even great icecream! Totally recommend for families.

We love this zoo and visit all the time with the kids. Its such a jewel in the crown of New Plymouth. Lots of different areas to keep the kids interested and then afterwards you can always grab an ice cream at the new truck that has just started, delicious!

We went with our tweens who are borderline a bit old now, but nonetheless a lovely wander around. If I had toddlers/early school years I’d have rated this higher as perfect for that age group. Lovely safe spot to take the kids to run around and see the animals! And its free, how awesome!
