- KaywolQueensland, Australia117 contributionsMust see and do.Simply mind blowing experience. A walk to the spring is a must. Unbelievable how much boiling water is flowing around this area. Private hot pool was definitely worth a relaxing 40 minutes. Staff very friendly and accommodating.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 March 2024

- AndyJewsonWest Malling, United Kingdom5 contributionsGreat thermal pools and convenient base for the areaWe spent 2 nights here in our campervan. We had a powered site, unpowered/tent available too. $70 per night for the 2 of us including access to the best hot pools we have found on North Island from 7am to 7pm was excellent value. We soaked in the pools each morning and evening and used it as a base to explore the area, we went cycling in the forest, rafting down the big waterfall and visited Te Puia. I'd recommend them all. Kitchen and toilets were clean and modern. It is a pretty small site, we booked the day before in May and it wasn't full but I guess it could get very busy during holiday times.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2024
- Samantha Hodgkinson7 contributionsMagical, relaxing & 10/10 carrot cake!!Oh my, what a hidden gem! Such a quaint little spot to completely unwind & relax. We couldn’t believe that you get pool access included with your camping, we had to stay there - it was a no brainer. Camping spots have enough space and are well kept! Kitchen facilities were spotless, they looked brand new. Toilets also clean & smelt great. The whole site just feels very magical and relaxing. We loved the addition of the eco trail showing you exactly where the water comes from. Each pool had a different temperature so great for everyone. Staff were very friendly & gave you the space you’d want in this kind of environment - no bothering whatsoever. One last note!! Who on earth made that carrot cake?! We need the recipe right now. Thought we’d treat ourself last night & it was so good we had to come back this morning for a second slice 😍😍😍 overall would highly recommend this place (& it’s sexy carrot cake) 10/10Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 June 2024
- RemilyWaiheke Island, New Zealand13 contributionsIf you can only do 1 hot pool in Rotorua, this is it!!!As someone who also works in tourism and hospitality I genuinely appreciated the exceptional level of service I received while visiting with my partner. We took a private pool and then tried all the public pools and I feel the price was really generous. All the facilities were very clean and welcoming. It was also incredible to walk up and see where the water was coming from!! These guys are doing it really well, and I will visit again every time I come out to Rotorua 🙌🏽Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 June 2024
- Ann R3 contributionsKeep coming backWe have been back several times in our caravan. Always a great stay. Just found out this time you can pay for early check in for $10, well worth it. We have at least two dips in the hot pools so the prices is well worth it Highly recommend.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 28 June 2024
- Sarah W7 contributionsMisty mornings.Lovely site with brilliant facilities. Spent a night in bay 7, best of the lot as far as we could tell- right on the boundary of the murky mists. The pools were fantastic, we watched the sun set from the infinity edge then sat under the stars. Campers get early access and an early morning bob (can’t say we swam) in the mists was the perfect start. Thank you for a great start to our trip.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 30 July 2024

- Amrita BNew Zealand579 contributionsHot pools and camping comboHave been here so many times and camped a few times as well. Never disappoints, always so lovely to use the many hot pool, day and night with family, friends and children. Plenty of powered/un-powered sites, toilets, changing rooms, cafe and even a small kitchen & drying shed. Staff are so lovely and welcoming. FYI no cellphone reception or wifi which is the best part to fully enjoy this place ;)Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 August 2024
- JenniGNZKaukapakapa, New Zealand18 contributionsWonderful place, definitely be back.Fabulous place. Can’t rave about it enough! We had travelled from Auckland in our motorhome with friends who’ve visited before and they told us it was special. We stayed at a couple of other camping places with hot pools on the way south but none of them are a patch on Waikite. Lots of different pools to choose, lovely clean facilities for campers and day visitors. The pools empty overnight and are refilled so the water is always clean and it was plenty warm enough unlike some that aren’t really “hot” pools. Staff very helpful and pleasant. It’s spoilt us for any other hot pools!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 September 2024

Excellent value for money and really lovely facility. The grounds are perfectly landscaped. Nice outlook.
Nice range of pool temperatures from 35-40 and a couple of small tubs that are colder to cool off in.
The little cafe has a few deep fried items (chips, wedges, sharing platters) and there are also a few slices/cake and of course coffee machine and ice creams.
Worth the drive out from Rotorua.
Also worth the short walk ~10mins to the viewpoint to see the boiling spring included in entry price.

This beautiful sanctuary is worth the 1/2 drive from Rotorua into the valley. Fresh geothermal waters flow into the naturally heated pools, excavated into the hillside. It was freezing and rainy when we went so we bolted from the changing rooms and spent 1 and 1/2 hours luxuriating between the large warm swimming pool and the hot spas with infinity edges surrounded by native bush. Glad we were told to hydrate as you do get very tired and headachey if you didn’t too long in one go in the hot pool/spas (longer than 15min). Beautifully fresh clean pools and a divine bush outlook, with a small cafe where you can get basic food & drinks. A fantastic, relaxing and restorative experience for the whole family.

Travelling in the motor home I decided to check out this place. What a little gem. For campers you get unlimited access to the pools between 06:00-20:00 when they start to drain the pools.
Pools are filled fresh every night and the public aren’t allowed in until 10:00. Perfect! Clean water & limited people.
The pools are different temps, between 37-42 degrees Celsius so you can choose which works best for you.
The cafe has GOOD Italian coffee & a range of food from snacks to full on meals.
Highly recommend a few nights here to soak & relax.

Feels like a public swimming pool, but with a few onsen like hot pools. It was quite relaxing to soak in the pools and I spent about 1.5 hrs. Towels & swimmers are available for rental for $12 ($5 deposit returned after towel returned) Would give it a miss, especially since there are so many other things to do.

If you have a car, these pools are definitely worth a visit. For only (NZ) $20 you can luxuriate in hot pools of various temperatures and in the coolest one it is also possible to do a gentle swim. My favourite was the garden pool which had the most stunning views of the surrounding hills. I really did feel like I had been transported to heaven - this is a fantastic way to spend a cold winter's afternoon. If I lived here, I would visit it every week.

Waikite Valley Thermal Pools was well worth the visit. We stopped in on our way from Taupō to Rotorua and spent a large portion of our day here. There is a nice variety of pools. It was not too crowded. The pools are in a very pretty setting. It was very interesting taking the short eco walk to see the amazing geothermal spring and stream. Highly recommend. Our whole family (2 adults, 3 teenagers) enjoyed visiting this amazing place.

We didn't know anything about it and just followed the signs. We didn't wan tot go swimming so got in for a couple of dollars and could walk along the hot creek to the boiling spring where it started. Lots of steam. Looked like a great place to swim in the pools.

if i am planning come on june, is he thermal pools open? how much is the entrance ticket and how far from rotorua? thanks julie
Written 20 February 2017
Hi Julie
The facility is open every day except Christmas from 10 am. I don't recall the exact price, but think it was something like $25-30 per adult for general admission. It's about 30 minutes from Rotorua
Written 22 February 2017
Do we need to book ahead to use the bathing pools.?
Written 23 January 2017
Wouldn't think so. Was quiet enough when we went that you never felt overcrowded in the main pools and didn't see the private pools being used.

Hi,
Is it possible to come with child ?
Thank you
Written 16 January 2017

Written 8 January 2017
Hi
Sorry for the late reply. There is a shuttle service from Rotorua called headfirst that you may wish to contact.
