About
Welcome to "The Wall " Rotorua's Indoor Climbing facility. Looking for something different to do? Then come try indoor rock climbing. The Wall is open 7 days - rain, hail or shine and is located right in the centre of town. Our wall is almost 20m at the highest point. We have 56 different climbs, 28 lead climbs and 30 top ropes. We have a 17m caving ladder that the kids love (big kids too)

Rainy Day Activity
Jun 2021
We came by since it was a rainy day and wasn't sure what else there was to do. We stopped by to do some bouldering on the climbing wall. The counter was for both the cinema and climbing wall.
With the climbing wall, there were options for climbing or bouldering. The difference is that climbing requires a harness and you are clipped in before climbing since you try and traverse the entire wall. With bouldering, you climb the lower areas of the wall so you don't really fall from a large height. The grading for climbing is based on the colour of the handholds while for bouldering you check the tape beside the handholds. For bouldering, it was a bit harder to find the holds you were wanting since there were so many handholds in the area. Either way, it is a fun way to pass the time.
Just be wary that when it gets busy you might not be able to do most of the climbs. It looked like each group ended up taking a climbing line for themselves so they were stuck climbing the same area.

Been here a couple times now, it's always great fun. Routesetting is fantastic, evryone can find a project to work on. Toprope and lead climbing on high walls as well as a small bouldering cave. I love this place and totally recommend it!

Being a wet day we took off to the movies. Pavarotti what a great film. The basement is always good for great movies and of course the climbing wall. Always a busy little place.

Basement cinema

Wet afternoon so went to movies. Mainstream cinema only had rubbish showing so went here. Small 12seater cinema, great for non mainstream movies, very comfy seating, drinks and small range of food available. If you see a movie you would like to see here go you will not be disappointed.

Challenging indoor fun
Nov 2018 • Friends
I reckon this is one of those things that you look at and think, hell no, I am too old, too unfit, too big, not strong enough...etc.
Wrong!
My first visit was to encourage someone else to give it a go but had no intention of trying it myself - for all the excuses noted above, including being fearful of heights.
Well, I gave it a go and discovered that I can do it and have many challenges to overcome. Top rope is magic, scary, but great fun.
The staff are awesome and supportive. Afterwards you can even have a drink to celebrate your ahievements.

The owner simon is a nice guy and if you like climbing, you should visit the wall! Afterwards you can watch a movie since it combines a climbing hall and a small cinema! We had a lot of fun and the routes were sophisticated and tricky, greetz from germany - hanna and marc!

Great little cinema
Jan 2018 • Couples
This cinema offers a range of movies including some art house ones and provides a great alternative from mainstream Reading. There are two small cinemas with comfortable chairs. A good range of food and drinks available for purchase. While waiting to go in to see the movie watching those keen on climbing take on the Wall is entertainment in itself.

BASEMENT CINEMA
Dec 2017 • Friends
Two intimate theatres here, with comfortable chairs. Always an excellent selection of quality movies, much much better than Readings, which is the only other cinema in Rotorua. Nothing better than relaxing here with a wine or coffee and cookie. (Give the toasted sandwiches a miss though as they skimp on the filling, and unfortunately have never learnt how to make them properly.)

A highlight

This is an excellent adventure attraction! Great for a dismal (summer) day. Simon and his crew are so helpful and friendly, and you can be an absolute beginner. There is an art house cinema there too and best wedges, sour cream and sweet chilli sauce ever. Really recommend it!
