Worth a few minutes on a sunny day
Mar 2021
Always a pleasure when in Rotorua to spend a few minutes wandering around this area. Some interesting buildings, nice plantings and a pleasant fish pond. On a warm, sunny day a real joy.

Bit boring
Mar 2021
Not what I had expected. The art around is very disappointing. Was expecting carvings and some impressive statues and Maori works to be in the gardens. The art was weird and really didnt mean anything except the ghost soldier.

Lovely area

Lovely area to wander around on a good day. The gardens are well kept and lead down to the lake and Sulphur Point.

Beautiful Government Gardens is a public park, located beside Lake Rotorua. It is a major tourist attraction.

Lovely quiet location in bustling Rotorua
Jan 2020
Great Maori sculptures/carvings, interestingly-engineered gates, olde worlde style building very picturesque, well looked after gardens & pond. Well worth a stroll.

Lovely grounds
Aug 2020
The Government Gardens are worth a visit - nice and peaceful with people playing croquet on the greens. A shame that the cafe and museum were under renovation when we visited.

Lovely place to visit/go for a walk
Jul 2020
The Government Gardens are always well maintained. Great place to go for a walk by the Museum, Blue Baths, Rose Gardens. There are bowling greens, and more.
Nice path up the centre of the gardens looking toward the Museum Easy walking. Parking not always so easy to get, alot of the spaces tend to be filled up.

It was fenced off for renovations but we were able to access the beautiful grounds and hot spring nearby.

What a great free space in Rotorua centre.

These lovely grounds can easily be over looked but set sometime aside to enjoy the beautiful park setting and follow the path around the lakefront towards Sulpher Bay to experience the geothermal goings on and the mass of bird life. Inside the park don’t miss the Rachel Spring - hot water pool - by the historical blue baths.
