The lake shore laps very close to the town centre and there is plenty of parking nearby. Opportunity to walk on paved areas around the lake and enjoy the views and the black swans.

This is a great lake and a wonderful place to see the sunset. The black swans are beautiful and there are many places to just sit and admire nature.

You can figure out that the water in the lake is really hot. The entire city can be seen with the steam and hot air coming out of various places. The steam and the heat coming out of the lake water makes the surrounding warm....More

From the government gardens take the lakeside walk, encounter birds like pukekos and admire the waterplanes on the lake waiting for customers. Best picnic spot , definitely romantic.

Lake Rotorua is a serene location. It has walk ways where you can enjoy the lake. The lake has black swans and seagulls which approach you once you offer them food. Overall a nice place to spend 2-3 hours.

Lake Rotorua is a beautiful lake. Easy public access with parks, entertainment areas, good free parking all around it. Take a boat ride or enjoy a wander along the edge of the lake. Beautiful scenery, birds galore, just lovely.

Definitely need to stop here and take photos. The black swans are pretty in the lake, but can be aggressive so don't feed them. Great kids playground here too.

We drove around the lake -- it was a nice half-day excursion, got to see pretty sunset views from a few angles. There are several off-the-beaten-path trails and waterfalls/springs around the lake, so it's worth checking out. We had a picnic right by the lake,...More

We saw the entire lake from a Helium balloon and it looked beautiful from the top. We also stayed in a holiday park, right on the lake, and it was beautiful from the ground level too. The local Maori meaning is Roto (Lake) and Rua...More
