Rotorua, a busy town in the center of the Northern Island. A lot of opportunities for tourists. Good restaurants, excellent choice.

Great Lake for trout fishing, mostly from boat. Lots of tourists in Rotorua City, quite commercialised being in NZ.

Coming after Cyclone Cook, some of the water front was cordoned off due to flooding. Views from near the jetty/pier were absolutely gorgeous though. Quite tranquil in the mornings, great place to relax or great for a cute picnic - also a playground for kids.

Considering that Rotorua is a tourist town, the lakefront is surprisingly peaceful and uncrowded. It is just a few blocks away from shopping, bars, restaurants etc, however the lake is a place where you can just go for a quiet walk and enjoy the scenery. We enjoyed seeing the black swans near the shore.

We had been to Government Gardens and decided to walk down to the lakesid. It is peaceful, tranquil and just a nice place to be. There's a cruise boat operating from the lake as well as a couple of sea planes, not sure whether these can be hired. The area is clean and if you walk on down a lane... More

Visted twice recenty, once on a lovely day when we went on the Lakeland queen dinner cruise and then this week when it was rough and pouring with rain.

Walking the perimeter of the lake takes no physical ability as it is all flat. The trail wanders around the lake through some brush but always very close to the water. There are ducks and swans and beautiful views. The bonus is the thermal activity. You can go right up to the small bubbling areas along the water's edge. The... More

This is a lovely lake with the city of Rotorua at its south end. The fumaroles of the city give an extra bit of smoke and texture to pictures of the lake, a unique feature. Comfortable city and pretty lake - lots of wildlife too - many of which we found taking advantage of the warmer water caused by the... More
