Interesting experience
Sep 2020 • Couples
This was the second time I've visited and it was still neat. Still a wonder that so many different
natural treasures are all so close to one another. We were pressed for time and found the map was a bit basic and got confused when there was part of the track closed without explanation.
The geyser was impressive for children, unfortunately we didn't have any with us. We loved the bubbling mud but thought it should have been signposted from the road so everyone can enjoy it.

Skip the geyser and arrive early!
Oct 2020 • Couples
Definitely head early - we arrived at opening time. There will be a thick fog, make the most of it! The park is quiet and beautiful, and you can get lots of photos with the steam in the cold air. Then, around 10:00/11:00 the fog lifts completely and the colours are amazing. I absolutely recommend skipping the geyser - it's man made, and further up the road. We skipped this and got a wonderful quiet park go relax, take photos and really enjoy the environment! The walk is long - bring water and sunscreen! Take a long time at the champagne pool as well, it's incredible!

Stayed for one night with two children. Really impressed by the awesome farm view and nice & warm treat by the host Danny and Mable!! They were incredibly friendly like our families and friends. Also the breakfast was so yummy with beautiful style.

Thank you Danny and Mable!! Will absolutely refer this to my friends and we will come back definitely.

A very worthwhile stay.

Lovely forest walks and great thermal attractions. Especially the neon lake towards the end. Need good shoes, water etc. Geyser was good too.

Must see

Much better than Waimangu. It was a great trip in general, although it would have been nice if part of the track wasn't closed.

The colours are unbelievable, you have to see for yourself. Thank you to our elegant host Miriama for explaining the whakapapa of the esteemed Lady Knox. Such a nice way to be introduced to Rotorua and its history.

Impressive mother nature

This is my second time back with a 20 year gap. Still a great experience. Kids didn't appreciate it as much as adults and the smell bothered them. Oh well, too bad children. ;)

Just took a school group around with a guided tour. They opened up just for us and we were given a great tour which was perfectly pitched for my students. Very friendly knowledgeable guide. Can really recommend 😊

Fabulous must see colourful geothermal pools - a Top 10 site
Jan 2020
Fabulous! Simply wonderful colours - Technicolor vivid & lurid (in places)! Quite long walks around some large pools and bubbling hot mud - luckily there's a fair bit of shade (it was a real scorcher when we visited in early January). We've been to Yellowstone and Iceland and this place is as good as those in many ways (although Yellowstone is on a vast scale compared to this one site) - just without erupting geysers! Lots to buy in the gift shop but the prices were very steep. Good cafe but again not cheap! Make sure you have a bottle of water or 2 when you walk round. Kids will probably love the brightly coloured vistas & bubbling mud - but the walks round are long and a tad boring for the most part so be warned.

Pretty cool
For the sake of the local employers it would be nice to see bigger crowds but I have to admit it was good to have a relaxing walk round. Informative boards and well formed tracks make it easy to get round some pretty spectacular sights. Definitely glad we did it.
