This was really fantastic. Amazing flight and such a great way to view the beautiful country. Volcanic air were super helpful and responsive to questions and Callum our pilot was great and super knowledgeable. Would highly recommend.

Wow! What an awesome experience to see the landscape of Rotorua from high above the helicopter, flying over the geothermal parks, forest and the many surrounding lakes before the birds eye view of Mt Tarawera site. Volcanic Air Safaris delivered a very high standard of comfort and ease to visit this mountain that erupted some 138 years ago. I was mesmerized with the beauty of the surrounding landscapes when we landed on the mountain top. The pilot took us on a short walk to the peak point and gave us very good account of the history of the mountain and the lakes. I can highly recommend this tour, a bucket list must do while you are in Rotorua. Thank you for an amazing experience.

We had a wonderful trip. Waited for a clear sunny day which makes the most of the views. The pilot was also a great guide giving the details and history of Taraweha and made everyone feel comfortable in a small seaplane. Would recommend.

We had the most amazing experience from start to finish!
Katie our pilot was awesome and made the whole trip perfect. If you want an experience
You won't forget you have to do this.
Soaking in the hot pools for 90min while our pilot and plane waited for us was like being in the rich and famous lol without the price tag.
DO THIS EXPERIENCE YOU WONT REGRET IT!.

My family and I went on this tour in September 2022 and we absolutely loved it. Our pilot Steven was a fantastic aviator and knowledgeable guide, he expertly flew us around showing us the beautiful landscape including around Rotorua and Mt Tarawera. We really enjoyed the exploration around Orakei Korako too. The takeoffs and landings in the float plane were so fun to experience. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Rotorua. It's 100% worth the money!

This was the first time that we were on the float plane. It was fun, comfortable and with great views. The experience was different from normal plane or helicopter. James, our pilot was friendly and informative.

Took a float plane to Lake Rotoiti hot pools and it was amazing. Flight was great, the teens in our group exclaimed it was way less spooky than they imagined.
Went on a weekday, so pretty much had the entire hot pools to our selves! Bliss.
It was one of those - oh gosh I must do that one day experience and I'm super glad we did!

It is fairly expensive but if you can go as part of a group then you can spread the cost much better. I was around £200 for my share. Happy to pay that as running float planes is an expensive business and what price do you put on such an amazing one-off experience? When on holiday do as much as you can, I say.
The pilot we had was excellent and talked us through pre-boarding and then commentated on the flight itself. The scenery was spectacular and we got lovely aerial views of Rotorua itself as well as the crater and lakes area of Tarawera.
I myself suffered from a bit of motion sickness since this is not a fixed wing flight so if you get a little sick on boats or helicopters you may experience that here. Still wouldn't have missed it for the world though.
Be aware that you will get weighed before boarding so they can balance up the plane :-)

How far in advance does a booking have to be made? Because I prefer to go on a sunny day but it is impossible to know the weather until a day or two before. Just worried that by that time the tours will be fully booked as I will be visiting during January.

Hi Jessica, December and January are our busiest months and on some dates, certain tours are already quite heavily booked. But generally speaking if you have a few days in Rotorua we would usually be able to find some availability for you as long as you have a bit of flexibility.
