Based on the shores of Lake Rotorua, Volcanic Air offers the most comprehensive range of scenic helicopter and floatplane flights and air tours in the region. Established in 1992, we carry over 10,000 satisfied customers per year to experience our local volcanoes, geothermal reserves & lakes district from both the air and the ground. Volcanic Air operate a mixed fleet of both helicopters and Rotorua’s only floatplanes. The versatility of these aircraft allows us to visit remote destinations that are hard to reach by other means. Our region is unique, and the diversity of its landscape is quite remarkable. We combine spectacular scenery with informative and interesting commentaries about an area that is considered as the cultural heart of New Zealand. 25th Wedding Anniversary

The activity my wife and I took was a flight from Rotorua to Rotoiti with a swim at the hot pools for an hour then a flight back to the Rotorua lake front. I felt this was good value for money. Callum Mill was our pilot, he was very friendly and professional. Callum had good advice and local knowledge.
My wife and have grown up in Rotorua so it was great to be able to take a flight on the planes you have grown up seeing.
The Callum and the company made our 25th Wedding Anniversary a great day to remember.

Float plane to Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools. This is a must. Even for a seasoned visitor to Rotorua and the lake, this was fabulous! Friendly, attentive staff made us feel welcome and safe. Landing on the lake, soaking in the hot pools, hot chips and bubbles to top it off and then home again. You have to do this at least once!!

A flight of fancy

A really delightful trip which opens up a brilliant view of the landscape allowing you to see the row of volcanic mountains and lakes. The six seater plane was ideal and the staff in the reception and the plane were all charming. We had explanations about the lakes, where some are hot, some high purity and some sulphurous.
We booked the half hour trip, but that actually ran to 45 minutes.

Thank you for your review and we are very happy you enjoyed your flight. Our flight time (time in the air) is 30 minutes so the extra time of loading and taxiing ends up being around 45min, and we agree it is a beautiful view of the landscapes

Helicopter trips are never cheap so you need to ensure you receive value for money. This trip exceeded our expectations in every respect and was the highlight of our entire visit to New Zealand. Don't delay, book today!

A Different Type of Kiwi Experience

An escape for a day from Auckland was needed so thought we will road trip to Rotorua and try something new. It landed us at @volcanicairnz for a flight to Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools. The flight itself was amazing. The views from the floatplane was incredible and a great way to see Rotorua. Anyone in New Zealand wanting to try something new at a reasonable cost should definitely check @volcanicairnz out and the numerous different tourist options they have that's been catered to the local market. Massive thanks to Steve who was our pilot and made sure we had an amazing time. Get out there kiwis and enjoy this amazing adventure in our own backyard 😍

Awesome flight and soak

Beautiful scenic flight in a floatplane over lake Rotorua to lake Rotoiti for a soak in the exclusive access thermal hot pools (only peasants take a boat).
Pilot was awesome and full of knowledge about the local area and answered all of our questions. Fantastic way to spend the morning, great views, value and service 😀

Wonderful experience

We took with Volcanic Air the tour to the White Island and Mt.Tarawera with landing and Katie was our pilot and guide. She is a tremendous pilot with great skills.
Katie did all the best in order for us to have a stunning experience, we recommand her if you really want something special, she is the kind of a guide who offers her full support so that you can just chill and relax, very professional and reliable, Volcanic Air is one of the best choices if you want to have a view of Rotorua from the air and Katie for sure, a great pilot and people oriented person, stunning performance, thank you!

A REAL TREAT. GO, GO, GO !!!!

We did the floatplane trip to the Lake Rotoiti hot pools. Not mentioned much on their webside, but told about it by another tourist operator. Worth every cent. Jump ed on a floatplane at the lakeside in Rotorua with our Pilot Callum. Very nice, and knowlegeable guy. Flew a short flight to Lake Rotoiti, landing right next to beautiful natural pools on the lake front. Not too busy, as you can only get there by flight or boat. Good spot for boaties to tie up and have a soak in the pools. Drinks available at a nice little outdoor area. Perfect for relaxing. One of the highlights of our few days in Rotorua. Great for couples.

Lake Rotoiti heli plane trip

We four were escorted by a friendly guide Colum to the pool with mesmerizing 12 mins plane flight. Fully enjoyed and happy to recommend this great company. Surely a unique experience to share in Rotorua.

A Total Disappointment

The booking and experience was a total disappointment. They could not book my tour on the early flight because I was the only one flying (claimed minimum of 2 people). Then I was offered and booked on a more extravagant tour at Noon for the same price. Felt pretty good about that. The catch was the weight had to work as I was the 6th and last passenger. I was called a few hours ahead of the noon tour and told that it would not work as the weight was over the limit. Then I was offered a 4 pm tour which I could not make do to my schedule. I certainly will look to another company should I ever return and try again. The company was not at all accommodating as they should have flown me solo.

Hello Lonniel. Sorry you feel that you did not have a good experience but as you know we really tried to find a flight we could get you on. We contacted you and your travel agent about this multiple time prior to the day of your flight. Legally we have a maximum weight limit on our aircraft, we never break these rules as it is illegal and for the safety of our staff and passengers. As we mentioned to you several times we have a minimum of two passengers, you were more than welcome to pay for two fares but did not want to do this.
