We made a last minute decision to rent a couple of electric bikes and do the forest loop. This company was excellent, the staff member was very helpful and informative, and made sure she stayed engaged with a number of customers at the same time. Bikes were in good condition and provided us with a good reliable ride. It is a bit expensive but felt this company was good value for money and ideally situated near to the village and loop entry. Thanks for making it a very good experience.

I wanted to hire a bike to visit the Whakarewarewa Forest because I didn’t have a vehicle in town. I popped into the electric bike store in town but they only had a couple of cruisers/greasers available at the time. The staff were so helpful. I hired the cruiser to ride out to the store at Whakarewarewa The Living Māori Village where I was able to swap it over for an explorer bike that was more suitable for the off-road terrain.
Hiring the bike from the electric bike store at Whakarewarewa The Living Māori Village also provided entry to see the geothermal lakes at the village.
The bikes were great and I took my time exploring the Mokopuna trail around the Redwoods and stopping to do the Treewalk.
I took my time exploring the trails, going around each location (redwoods and living village) a couple of times. I swapped my explorer for the cruiser on the way back and in total it was a four (4) hour hire.
The bikes and service at Electric Bike Rotorua were great and the sites are definitely worth a visit. Good value for a great day out.
Mountain bikes are also available if you are more adventurous and want to explore the extensive mountain bike trails.

Excellent service to make sure we visited the geothermal parts of Rotorua we had planned. Thijs was particularly helpful in planning our routes but all of the staff were bike enthusiasts and keen to help us. The electric bikes were very good.
It’s best to organise your trip to the Whakarewarewa site through Electric Bikes as they have a partnership that pays for the basic access. As well as that park, the ride down the coast from Rotorua Lake is well worth doing as it is unconstrained by fences!!

To quote the guy who rented the bikes "This is a really easy trail, you can't get lost, it is really well marked. . . level 1-2". Well, we could neither find the entrance to the trail from the living village thermal park, nor the way back. Eventually we did find the trail, and once on, yes it was well marked--to include many portions that were level 3 (want your kid falling off a 50 ft drop?) But--we also couldn't find our way off--ended up going around 1/3 of the way around again--and taking a level 4-5 trail to get off the mountain. What should have been a 3-4 hour ride 33km ride was over 6 and probably 45 km. And, it's not an uncommon problem. Our B&B host told us he had another guest just the week before with the exact same problem.
That said, the bikes were good, the people nice and now that we can look back one of the most memorable parts of the trip--beautiful scenery.
The shop pointed us to the trailmap on Kamoot app (which we had used before). When we were lost Kamoot kept saying things like "the trail is 1/2 mile to your right"-- of course that 1/2 mile was a cliff, so not helpful. And that particular map does not intersect the thermal village anywhere so NO help getting back. I've rented from other shops where they posted their own map to Kamoot that took you directly from and back to the shop. Suggest this rather simple fix would have helped a ton.

Thank you Frankie & Joe from Electric Bike Rotorua. This friendly team of great people set us up with electric bikes to explore Whakarewarewa Forest. They were so helpful explaining how to use the bikes as it was our first time. If you’re in doubt about renting an electric bike, go for it! We were able to cover so much more ground & see parts of the Redwoods we otherwise wouldn’t have with a regular mountain bike. It was so good having a little assistance getting up some big hills while still getting a decent work out in. Extra bonus was getting to hang out with Alfie the dog - so loveable. I can’t recommend these guys enough.

So much fun.
We had 2 bikes, one with a captains chair for older child (too small to self ride) and a child seat for 5yo.
Everything was set up and ready to go for our booked time.
As suggested on the site, we booked for the longest time frame we thought we would be, and when returned early only charged for the time we were out, so good 👌 as we all got tired quicker.
Both kids really enjoyed the ride.
Going thru the Redwoods was pretty magical too and just lots of fun getting around with some assistance
We did get quite lost, as we didn't download the apps for tracks etc, and tried to go off the paper map which was lacking in detail for us to orient ourselves....however we got where we were headed eventually and had a fantastic time.
Customer service was great, friendly & very helpful staff.
Also only started our time from when we actually took off.
Great value for money and time.
Can't wait to do again when we come back to Rotorua.

Hired full suspension e-mtb from these guys. Bike in mint condition and well maintained. 4 days of awesome redwoods riding with uphill rests and cross country as much fun as the downhills - beats wallowing around on my enduro bike any day and not reliant on busy shuttles so explored further. The haibike wasn’t as agile as some e-bikes I have ridden but super stable. Friendly team in the shop too.

The Electric Bikes team were friendly, knowledgeable and very accomodating. Frankie provided a great range of trail options in the Redwoods plus got me out on a full suspension ebike. There is some epic terrain including some brilliant intermediate flow trails - big highlight was `The Pig` trail - smooth and speedy! Great store, outstanding service and would definitely recommend seeing them next time you`re in Rotorua.

We hired two bikes. Had to come back because one was shonky. They exchanged it. Finally left at 3. Were gone 1.5 hours when the bike broke. Waited in the freezing cold for 20mins to be collected. Then were charged for a full 2 hours and when questioned the service woman gave us the stink eye and was rude so I felt so uncomfortable I paid. The lady was also pretty bad at teaching us how to use it. Luckily the man came and took over.

Hi Lucy,
Apologies for our service not meeting your expectations. Our policy is to charge by an hourly rate and allows a 10 minute grace period before jumping up to the next level which in your case was the two hour mark. If you had been back prior to 1 hour 10 minutes or called to report an issue with a bike within this time, you would have been charged the hour rate. In addition to this, your party arrived late to the booked time that the bikes were held for, which was not charged for.
Electric bikes don't like to be put in the highest gear and cranked as hard as possible as it puts too much stress on the chain, which is what happened with the bike that was believed to be 'Shonky.' This was something that we provided additional training on before leaving to ensure that it was understood how it worked.
This bike was an upgraded model which was done free of charge. We do apologize that the bike chain did fail however a complementary shuttle service was provided to bring you and the bikes back and no parts were charged to you.
Service is very important to us and we profusely apologize if you were made to feel uncomfortable in the slightest when you returned. We hope that this helps clear up any confusion to why you were charged the amount that you were.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us on info@electricbikerotorua.com

A must do when in Rotorua. Knowledgeable, friendly team who go out of their way to help. My grown up family and I completed a personalised bike tour through the redwoods and would do so again without hesitation. It has ignited a new love of Ebikes for me, with the hope of eventually investing in one. I’ll be sure to pop back to the store for the trusted advice, when I do. The depth of knowledge of bikes is impressive, yet easily explained to someone with less knowledge. I have hired bikes in different places around the world, but the quality here surpasses anything else. 10/10, highly recommend- for a tour, hire it yourself or your next purchase.

Could a child 50 inches tall do this activity?

Hi I'm not sure best to look on their website. I only saw bikes for kids about 10 years and older. Sorry couldn't be more helpful
