I was excited to discover a new (or revamped?) foot baths area, with a pleasant shaded area. It is the nicest thing to be able to sit down and relax and soak your feet. The park also has a selection of mudpool and steam areas, a nice break from the more formal tourism areas. There are also decent enough public toilets.

Looking for bubbling mud on a budget. Situated in the middle of town is a lovely walk, playground, and field area surrounded by boiling and bubbling mud and steam. Definitely something to put on the to do list.

The property is very run down but Ming the owner and Samuel at the front desk are really wonderful. There are mineral baths but if you want something fresh and clean then maybe look elsewhere. This place is in a great location and Ming goes out of his way to help. I would return there as the decor doesn't bother me.

What a great park. Gave me loads to photograph and filled up my afternoon all for free. It makes for nice easy walking and includes mud pools, steaming lakes and lots of bird life hanging around as well.

These parklands have plenty of thermal activities to look at - and it’s all free!
The gardens and trees are really pretty and it’s all mostly level so suitable for all ages. A great spot for a picnic or similar

I guess it’s the original Rotorua but minus the geysers. Wandering around the park along well constructed paths you can see bubbling mud, very hot streams and imbibe the famous fumes. We chose a late sunny winter afternoon for maximum effect and...it’s all FREE.

Looks well kept on the grounds. The bathrooms are not great with soap dispensers broken off the walls which was a shame. Playground for little kids was nice too and have fenced off areas to stop children getting too close to the natural activity. Nice to walk through.

Had a look around when going to the aquatic centre. Ok but not as good as the commercial places. Really justb a park with some hazards fenced off.

Travelling on a budget, it was a nice walk with enough geothermal activity to see that we would have otherwise not been able to afford. They have done a great job making it all very tidy and accessible. Make sure you walk right down to the end where the main lake is.

How strong is the sulphuric smell in the park and surrounding areas?

The whole of Rotorua generally has that smell lingering. I wouldn't say its strong but it is very subjective. Some people do get affected by the slightest while I may have a slightly higher tolerance.
Is this Kuirau Park a free entrance park? Some websites mentioned it's free but some don't.

When you visit Kuirau Park, where is the best place to park, which end of the park is the best start-off point?

There are plenty of roadside parking spots and there are some carparks that weave in and around Kuirau Park. I never had touble parking in the area because it was a quieter time of the year but the park itself is a nice stroll so don't stress too much where you park.
When does the park open tomorrow

Sorry for delay in answering- it's open 24 hours, although i am not sure you would at night time as there are not any lights. It's an easy park to go through during the day.
