I spent an afternoon doing a weaving workshop with Anna and was thrilled to be able to sit with her and learn from someone who is obviously so passionate. She is an extremely talented artist and a very special person to spend time with. I learnt a lot about flax weaving and also Maori traditions and culture. Her workshop is suitable for both adults and children and well worth taking the time to do while in Rotorua.

I can not rave enough about the incredible Maori weaving work of Anna Hayes and having done a workshop with her to learn about this traditional art, my respect soars. The workshop is a "must do" for visitors to Rotorua - gain an understanding of the traditional art of Maori weaving and take home beautiful pieces you would not believe you could make. Anna's patience tutoring is inspirational. Her skills are exceptional. The gallery is packed with beautiful woven artefacts. Her book on weaving is fabulous. The best day I could have possibly imagined in Rotorua was largely spent at Maori Weaving Rotorua. Thank you Anna.

We were looking to learn more about maori culture through art and craft. Anna was just the right person to instruct us. Our first woven flax baskets were not perfect, but the technique was there. Maori weaving provided a connection throughout our visit to New Zealand, as we observed the flax growing by roadsides, the tui bird feeding on its flowers and the magnificent cloaks in museum collections.
