Experience the real magic and spirituality of local Maori while paddling with us on one of our 50ft War Canoes (Waka). Our visitor experience provides an exclusive look into our ancient Ngapuhi tribal customs, rituals and traditions. Through storytelling we share the ancient knowledge and histories of our living cultural landscapes during a 2hr voyage of the Waitangi River and tidal estuaries. In 2011 National geographic Traveller recognised our visitor experience as being in the worlds top 50 tours of a lifetime. Our Qualmark endorsed activity is a perfect combination of eco Tourism and interactive Maori culture. Our hot deal package until October 2018 includes a free 2 day pass to the Waitangi Treaty grounds and all its daytime activities along with a free Gift Pack of Natural Maori medicinal soap & balm worth $55.00 We are the Ngapuhi tribe of the North, New Zealands largest Maori tribe and we invite you to join us on a once in a lifetime voyage

Taiamai Tours was a wonderful experience: going out on a waka (canoe) in the gorgeous setting of Northland. The guides shared traditional stories and introduced us to Maori local heritage. Everyone in the group had a great time.

My family and I went on this tour and we can only say good things about it. Not only was it a great experience, we learned a lot and were treated as honoured guests by the guides. Paddling a Waka War Canoe is not something...More

We took this tour a few days ago and loved every second of it. It has the potential to go horribly wrong as we booked late the night before and turns out we were the only two on the morning trip so the hosts found...More

We did this on 30th December in the pouring rain, but as soon as everyone had worked out that we were going to get soaked but not cold we soon got in to the spirit of it all. Perhaps because of the weather our hosts...More

My partner and I did a waka tour with Tani and Sonny in between Christmas and New Year 2012. We were the only two people on the tour, but that did not stop our hosts pulling out all the stops for us. We truly enjoyed...More

Our trip on the waka war canoe didn't start well as the skies were grey and it was starting to rain. We were greeted by a traditional Maori warior and his wife who escorted us to our canoe. A traditional welcome to every one preceded...More

Need to let the Trip Advisor community that Taimai Tours did refund us with much apology (and before they knew of my post). We remain dissappointed that we didn't get to take the tour as by everyone's account is is worth doing. Maybe nextime :)

We booked a cruise with P&O starting in New Zealand and finishing in Southampton and this was the first and best trip of our holiday. It was educational in the sense that we learnt a great deal about the Maori history and culture but above...More

The paddle journey on the waka with Taiamai Tours was the highlight of my six weeks in New Zealand. I learned so much about the history of the area from the Maori perspective. I learned of the ways that they were able to sustain themselves...More

There were many senior participants on the waka on my trip, you only have to paddle for a short while which isn't too arduous but great fun. The waka also can be motored along the river if needs be. With 5 - 7 year olds, I... More

From what I remember a good 3 - 4 hours. If the waka goes to the Maori Marae Meeting House for the welcome ceremony this is around about a reasonable length of time. If you journey to the Waterfall it may very well be the... More
