My wife and I booked this excursion whilst travelling on the Arcadia cruise ship, at a cost of £62 each. The whole "Maori Experience" lasted approx. 3hours, although not the best of days, weather wise, we both enjoyed this excursion. There were nearly 60 persons in our group, so we were able to crew two canoes. We were fortunate to... More

We did this last week whilst on a cruise on Aurora, it was a fabulous afternoon, the sun was shining and we just paddled up the river. It was so much fun and so very educational. The family that run this tour were lovely, so friendly. This is a must if you go to the Bay of Islands, you won't... More

I took the tour primarily because I love to paddle, but the tour turned into not only an adventure but a learning experience. I was and still am amazed by the maturity, knowledge and wisdom of this 14 year old boy with a body of a 20 year old and the maturity of a 50 year old man. All I... More

I did this canoe trip when travelling on the Queen Mary 2 as an excursion. It was the best decision I made. The trip is interesting, informative and a whole lot of fun. The team that runs it puts their heart and soul into it. Paddling the canoe with 29 other people and leaning a lullaby to sing while doing... More

We booked this tour while on the Queen Mary 2 so had 2 full Waka Taua canoes. We had the perfect day (warm and sunny) to go paddling up the Waitangi River. Our host, Tani, was a 13 year-old who has an extensive knowledge of his heritage, ancient customs, rituals and traditions of his Maori people. We learnt so much... More

If your ambition is to paddle a Waka then as a tourist this may be your only opportunity. A few words of warning – check out how many others will be joining you, it is a far better experience with a full (16 persons) canoe; there were two others in mine and it was altogether very disappointing as 95% of... Taiamai Tours was a wonderful experience: going out on a waka (canoe) in the gorgeous setting of Northland. The guides shared traditional stories and introduced us to Maori local heritage. Everyone in the group had a great time.

My family and I went on this tour and we can only say good things about it. Not only was it a great experience, we learned a lot and were treated as honoured guests by the guides. Paddling a Waka War Canoe is not something you can do every day and add to this the knowledge and enthusiasm of the... More

We took this tour a few days ago and loved every second of it. It has the potential to go horribly wrong as we booked late the night before and turns out we were the only two on the morning trip so the hosts found out at 9 am that they had guests arriving at 10 am and many of... More

We did this on 30th December in the pouring rain, but as soon as everyone had worked out that we were going to get soaked but not cold we soon got in to the spirit of it all. Perhaps because of the weather our hosts really pulled out the stops to entertain and educate us. Not only was it great... More
