Experience the real magic and spirituality of local Maori while paddling with us on one of our 50ft War Canoes (Waka). Our visitor experience provides an exclusive look into our ancient Ngapuhi tribal customs, rituals and traditions. Through storytelling we share the ancient knowledge and histories of our living cultural landscapes during a 2hr voyage of the Waitangi River and tidal estuaries. In 2011 National geographic Traveller recognised our visitor experience as being in the worlds top 50 tours of a lifetime. Our Qualmark endorsed activity is a perfect combination of eco Tourism and interactive Maori culture. Our hot deal package until October 2018 includes a free 2 day pass to the Waitangi Treaty grounds and all its daytime activities along with a free Gift Pack of Natural Maori medicinal soap & balm worth $55.00 We are the Ngapuhi tribe of the North, New Zealands largest Maori tribe and we invite you to join us on a once in a lifetime voyage

How often do you have the chance to paddle in a traditional Maori canoe lead around one of New Zealands most beautiful areas? The ancient stories and histories from the great Maori ancestors who navigated across the turbelant oceans of the Pacific from Polynesia to...More

Entertaining (and interesting!) excursion through Royal Caribbean, Radiance of the Seas! We had a very full "waka!" Lots of paddling fun while learning about the Maori. Great for all ages - you can paddle as much (or not!) as you'd like! Super fun, would definitely...More

We visited as a small group, had great fun paddling the waka, surprised how fast we moved it along although with the tide turning and a head wind on the return journey later it was an added bonus with Wayne's additional motorised assistance. Interesting historical...More

We did the Maori Waka encounter which was a brilliant experience even though it poured with rain throughout and we got soaked to the skin. Our guide was the chief of the Ngapuhi tribe who regaled us with stories of his family history whilst teaching...More

I bought this for my husbands Christmas present as he has been learning the Maori Language! It was truly such an amazing experience. Our guide, Tani, was a local who had grown up on the Waiting River. He taught us how to paddle the waka,...More

We had a small group of 5 people on our tour so it was more personal than say hiking with 20 other people. I would recommend this to anyone who would want a more genuine Maori experience and learn more about the history and culture....More

Different experience, genuine Maori stories and a different view of Maori culture. Inboard motor made real paddling optional when necessary (there were only 6 of us) but it gave you a feel for what it was like.

There were many senior participants on the waka on my trip, you only have to paddle for a short while which isn't too arduous but great fun. The waka also can be motored along the river if needs be. With 5 - 7 year olds, I... More

From what I remember a good 3 - 4 hours. If the waka goes to the Maori Marae Meeting House for the welcome ceremony this is around about a reasonable length of time. If you journey to the Waterfall it may very well be the... More
