Entertaining (and interesting!) excursion through Royal Caribbean, Radiance of the Seas! We had a very full "waka!" Lots of paddling fun while learning about the Maori. Great for all ages - you can paddle as much (or not!) as you'd like! Super fun, would definitely do this excursion again!

We visited as a small group, had great fun paddling the waka, surprised how fast we moved it along although with the tide turning and a head wind on the return journey later it was an added bonus with Wayne's additional motorised assistance. Interesting historical information and lots of details, both Rob and Wayne were happy to answer all questions... More

We were on Bay of Islands via a cruise ship. Although the weather was awful ( rain) we had a amazing time, the waka (war canoe) held about 26 people and we all had to row it,we were led by the a Moari who told such passionate tales about his ancestors, etc. The whole trip lasted about 3 hrs but this... We did the Maori Waka encounter which was a brilliant experience even though it poured with rain throughout and we got soaked to the skin. Our guide was the chief of the Ngapuhi tribe who regaled us with stories of his family history whilst teaching us songs his grandma used to sing to him. The Haruru Falls were the highlight... More

We decided to go on this experience during our cruise around New Zealand. It was great to get off the ship and have some exercise! The tour operators obviously love their job and provided lots of interesting stories about their culture while we paddled up the river. A beautiful way to see some of New Zealand while giving our teenage... More

I bought this for my husbands Christmas present as he has been learning the Maori Language! It was truly such an amazing experience. Our guide, Tani, was a local who had grown up on the Waiting River. He taught us how to paddle the waka, and as we paddled our way up the river he spoke of his tupuna (ancestors)... More

We had a small group of 5 people on our tour so it was more personal than say hiking with 20 other people. I would recommend this to anyone who would want a more genuine Maori experience and learn more about the history and culture. Thanks guys

Different experience, genuine Maori stories and a different view of Maori culture. Inboard motor made real paddling optional when necessary (there were only 6 of us) but it gave you a feel for what it was like.

Having been once, and enjoyed it,we decided that another adventure was warranted. The thrill of paddling in a maori war canoe is great value with the natives extremely warm and friendly.age is no barrier as they will carry you to the canoe and help you in and out. The fun of splashing and pulling faces at other canoests together with the... More

As authentic as it could get. We were surrounded by Maori tribesmen doing their welcoming dance performance. After, we prepared ourselves with sunscreen, life preservers, and water to drink. We boarded a double canoe and learned the intricacies of the correct way to paddle. It was a bonding experience as we navigated the Waitagi river while listening to the chief... More
