absolutely lovely

it was so relaxing strolling around these gardens, with a lovely waterfall and a bridge to stop and admire it. It was apparantly built by prisoners from the old Napier Prison

A beautiful peaceful place to visit, kept in pristine condition with delightful plants and trees. It is hilly, has a lovely waterfall flowing down and an Avery, plus flat grass areas.

Flowers were full and ubiquitous. Not to mention the ducks, birds, and parakeets. Huge trees, wonderfully movie like garden with trails and things to walk through. It is free too so worth it if you are looking for local species of things. We walked here from town and it had a little bit of an increase in elevation. So if... More

I always take time to visit botanic gardens, and Napier has one of the best. Steep climbs up and down by paths or steps, but mostly in the shade. Aviary and ducks at the bottom. Park at the top and choose a way down. Peaceful.

You can't expect much from Napier or their council of morons but this place is alright, well tended. Great place to walk the dog and to sheltered from wind on a bad day. This adds to what little those rippoff-rate-swindling idiots have delivered , the same tards that spent nearly $2M on 2 art deco busses only to sell them... More

From the bottom there is a little duck pond, from there walk under large trees with cooing doves. The path leads to a small aviary with brightly coloured budgerigars. A sweeping lawn with a beautifully landscaped bog garden following a stream. Plenty of room to lay out a blanket and pass the afternoon away with good food and a book.... More

The garden is situated in a dell and the paths go around the sides of the dell necessitating some serious uphill and downhill walking. OK for fit people and on a normal day. The temperature was approaching 30 C on day we visited and that was HOT.

Small but beautifully landscaped with a gorgeous man made stream running through the middle. Some trees I'd not seen before. Spent a lovely hour strolling with the dogs who are welcome as long as there are on lead.

Went to the gardens yesterday and was sadly disappointed! They were quite sparse, and incredibly steep! You'd never be able to get a pram or wheelchair around there comfortably. Had a couple of nice patches, and a pretty goldfish pond, but only worth the trip if you have a car and really need to fill a gap in your day

Excellent use of a difficult site. The gardens are stunning with the effective use of water features. Majestic trees line the slopes. Pioneer cemetery is adjacent at the top of the hill.
