Nice setup, but not such special chocolate

When u first walk into the cafe, you won't be impressed when u see the food or the decor. It looks like very average bakery food. We nearly walked out but as we were starving, we decided to give it a go. To our surprise and delight, the sausage rolls were amazing! Worth going there just for them. They also... More

We are really pleased that you enjoyed your sausage rolls, we take great pride in the food we make as well as our customer service. Sorry the décor is not to your taste, most people take photos of the chocolate and coffee signs, and regularly wish to buy one. The signs regarding children and robots is a bit of fun,... More

The very friendly staff at The Silky Oak were helpful and attentive. For dark chocolate lovers you can't go pass their dark chocolate here. Sensationally smooth! The museum was great too. Their is a questionnaire that you can complete on your way around that keeps the kids engaged and it also helps to better understand the history of the cocoa... More

We loved it so much we made sure to go back! The chocolate was incredibly good. We bought a lot of varieties while we were there for 3 days, and loved them so much we went back. We also did the museum tour, which was OK, but the chocolate itself is definitely the highlight. They also have excellent gift and... More

You picked the best time to visit us, the chocolate shop always looks at its best with Easter coming up. The chocolate shop always looks really good, but Easter and Christmas there is just a variety of goodies it is hard to pick where to start. WE hope you get to visit us again. The Pantry shop will be expanding... More

This chocolate company was well recommended in my guide book. It was full of all sorts of Easter chocolate in all shapes and sizes. Since I do not eat milk chocolate, there was only one small dark chocolate bar at 70% which was expensive for the size. I left totally unimpressed.

We have a large range of dark chocolate only products in the shop, 48% through to 70%. 70% dark chocolate has a limited customer base, with most people wanting something slightly sweeter to the palate. Our chocolate is all couverture, which means it does not have any added fats or palm oil, it is also handmade, with the price being... More

The iced coffees and iced chocolates are divine, and that is not because I am biased. It is great to hear that you enjoyed your breakfast as well. Thank you More

We took a 4 hour trip around Napier which included a stop at the Silky Oak Chocolate Company. This sounded good from what our coach driver told us. Not quite so. It must be the only chocolate company in the area and every coach goes there first until the wineries open. Anyone who wanted to taste the chocolate had to... More

We aim to please all our customers and love giving out samples of our chocolate. We have a large number of people that come through our doors. Most people recognise that a 'sample' is a small offering of our products. Some customers feel that grabbing a handful of samples rather than the polite 'one of each' is acceptable. We like... More

We are really pleased to see you enjoyed our chocolates. If you had told the staff you were wanting real chocolate, instead of powdered (our hot chocolate is powder and real mixed) then we would have offered you our extreme chocolate. This one is sooo thick that it requires a spoon to enjoy fully. The reason for both is because... More

I couldn't believe it when I asked if my eggs could please be scrambled rather than poached or fried and after asking in the kitchen was told yes but it would be an extra $2.50!! Although quite tasty rather eXpensive and not very friendly service. Won't be returning!

Our scrambled eggs are made with love, an extra egg and cream. Hence the extra charge. Our customer service is normally second to none, so if you have a problem in the future could you please ask to speak with the manager. More

Noting it's European origins on the wall, we expected more sophisticated-tasting chocolates, but while they were pretty and diverse, the chocolate wasn't so remarkable. Still, it was a fun stop with a small workroom, museum and cafe and would be nice lunch place especially for non-drinkers visiting Napier and surrounded by so much wine!!

Thank you for your comments, our chocolates centres are mainly traditional and suited to the palate of most New Zealanders. All of our centres are made here, unlike others where the centres are bought in and a flavor added. We hope to see you on your next visit to our region More

We went to Silky Oak on a tour from a cruise ship. The coach was met by a smiling lady with a tray full of chocolates for us to try - delicious. We then went in to the factory to be shown how the chocolates are made which was fascinating. A visit to the chocolate museum followed where we found... More
