Having recently been to the AUckland zoo, I didn't hold much hope for the Hamilton zoo being any better....however it was different in a way I wouldn't have expected. Such a diversity of animals not seen at AUckland are here, along with more close encounters,...More

it is more of a zoo park than an international style zoo. Famous for the breeding programmes the species have plenty of space to be animals! A favourite is the white rhino enclosure and the chimpanzee enclosure for the mostly retired tea party chimps for...More

This zoo is a great day out for families. It is not too big or too busy. The atmosphere is relaxed. Good cafe, picnic area and playground. The native bird sanctuary is my favourite place.

This zoo is lovely, it has great walkways with loads of greenery... we found it much better than auckland zoo as it is not such a concrete jungle. The chimp enclosure is amazing, large and spacious and all of the animals look well cared for....More

My grandchildren live in Hamilton so I have had many visits to this zoo. We always enjoy the animals and it's a great walk around, very interesting layout. A great place.

Animals have plenty of open space. Grounds are well laid out, with paths that give a good view of the "content" animals. Good for 1-2 hours casual strolling. Nice country zoo, not too busy and rushed like Auckland zoo.
