This zoo is really charming. It's not huge, you probably only need a morning to see all the animals. It's a really thoughtfully planned out zoo. The enclosures are very large and the animals all seem quite well cared for and happy. We decided to do the face to face encounter they offer. We chose the Lemurs. It was fantastic!... More

I not normally a fan of zoos, but the Hamilton Zoo seems to be more about endangered animals in the wild due poaching and loss of habitat. The staff were very friendly and the animals are in well kept and good size enclosures. Very reasonably priced day out and worth a look.

We met up with another family of friends and all told there were 9 of us to see the sights. It was the best zoo trip ever as it seemed that every enclosure we visited, the animals were out and frolicking about the place, Oz the tiger placing chase with his girlfriend, a fight at the chimpanzee enclosue (over who... We had a great time viewing the animals here. Unlike some zoos that make it too easy for animals to hide from view, this zoo has a great balance. Lovely walkways, good pram access and picnic areas.

My children have not been to a zoo (that they can remember) so we were keen to check this out. My family has often remarked this zoo is much better than Auckland and Wellington zoo, but I can't comment on that as I haven't visited those. However, we very much enjoyed Hamilton zoo. You get very close to the rhinos,... More

We never expected to stay as long as we did. The attractions were soo good that we we captivated for hours. We sat for and hour and a half watching the chimps and especially the 11 month old chimp. Soo cute. The park is well payed out and the signposts make it easy to find your way around.

All I can say is it is a good zoo just nothing really changes it's the same every time you visit. I think if I went away from the area and came back it would be good and feel like a nice thing to come back to. Great for a kids day out

Beautiful zoo set in the rolling hills surrounding Hamilton. Not a typical zoo - more like an oasis! The animals are in lovely shape & in wonderful, clean areas. The zoo is a bit small when comparing to Auckland or San Diego but as far as zoos go, it is a great place to visit!
