Like many of new Zealand's museums and galleries this is a first class effort and worth the effort. The predominance of local displays is a little repetitious but is highly informative and educational. we were only traveling through and are pleased we had the opportunity to visit this special place.

Hamilton Museum is located right in the city overlooking the river. It is modern, well laid out and one of the more interesting museums I have visited in NZ. Very interesting Maori history represented here

This is not a bad place to fill in an hour or two. It is free although you can pay for extras. We found the WWI and WWII history very interesting and informative. I think that a visit here is worth it. The museum is located at the south end of town on Victoria Street.

The staff were so friendly and kind starting off with the Chinese-looking receptionist to the guide who occupied my 2 year old arranging plastic balls in... More

I enjoyed viewing the Art Awards and the information about old Hamilton - the architecture is impressive and the new fountain outside is also an asset

The museum is free with a variety of displays and at times special exhibitions and holiday activities. They have an excellent education section to take groups to. Excite is a great place to take children of any age, for a variety of interactive games and activities. There is a charge for this.
