Whilst my kids were entertained by the kids' section which was very educational, fun and interactive, I was mesmerised by the displays on Maori history and WW1 with actual display of soldiers' letters/memorabilia.. for those who love modern art, there are quite a display as well!

Some of the exhibitions were quite well presented. However it felt more like a gallery than a museum, and some "galleries" were really rather inappropriate for a city's main museum in my opinion. One was some sort of modern/conceptual art competition and another was a high school dress design project exhibition. Some of the exhibitions, such as the Maori and... More

We loved the cano and the wood art crafts of Moaori history. There was and exhibition about WW1-victims too. Very friendly staff and some nice gifts in the shop. We spend 1,5 hours in this museum. It was worth it going to Hamilton to visit it.

Tere are several very interesting displays at present, the one on Maori history and culture is very notable in the way it is presented, the First World War section is both moving and uplifting. The display of marionettes is very good, whilst upstairs there is a very detailed exhibition on Bob Marley. Well worth a visit.

Great (paid) kids section. very interactive display. We always get the quiz sheet from the front desk and the kids will run around finding the answers. There are range of activities for kids of all ages. Great place to entertain the kids especially in the school holiday

The Waikato Museum is right on the river in the center of town. After parking along the river, we came to the entrance plaza at a time when the large fountain was running. To me, it looked like a children's toy in bright colored plastic rings. The water circulates every 15 minutes and gives a unique character to the entrance.... More

We stopped off in Hamilton to break our journey and what a pleasant surprise it was. Some of the better known museums around the world could learn a thing or two from this museum. I was interested in their history of the First World War. They have a gallery dedicated to the role the citizens of Hamilton played during WW1.... More

We go here regularly but only go to the the two kids area. Our girls are 4 and love how interactive everything is. We could easily spend 3+ hours making faint Lego cars, playing on the go cart games, drawing and so much more. The lower floor offers a lot of educational stuff relating to gardening and sustainability. The girls... More

This museum has a very broad range of displays. From marionettes to Maori art and religion. It sits right ok the river walk so the two can be enjoyed together.
