We took our 5year old and he seemed to enjoy the play area. I wouldn't compare this to Te papa museum as it's not that full. It's ok to kill a hr or so on but the whole museum wouldn't appeal to younger children. Although...More

The museum is free to go to, so is worth visiting. There is large Maori boat which is pretty cool. There is also a really interesting section about world war 1.

Overall a good smallish museum in a smallish city. There as a decent range of exhibits - most of the information and exhibits relating to Tikanga Maori were very good. We also went to the paid exhibitions which were interactive and fun for the kids....More

When my husband was at a work conference I spent the afternoon enjoying the hospitality of this lovely little museum. I was very impressed by the Maori exhibits and the staff very welcoming. The history of the local culture, town and building of the museum...More

So much to see, had my grandchildren with me who really enjoyed the activities they had available. Easy access to all parts of the museum with so much culture and history on every floor

Exhibits change frequently and are well done. The staff were outstanding. The location is right on a beautiful river. It is definitely a place to see.

There are lots of interesting (and free) things to see at the museum and some fun exhibits for the kids. If you are in town already it's worth popping in.
