Explore an enchanting world of secret gardens.

Transport yourself through time and to far-flung corners of the world. Meander through a lush tropical jungle, visit ancient China and indulge yourself in a Renaissance Prince's 16th century garden. Five garden collections have been created to delight the senses, with some garden concepts reaching back 4,000 years.

Hamilton Gardens is a conceptual garden based in the Waikato that explores the context, history and meaning of gardens through time, and from around the world. It is internationally recognised for its unique concept and is the Waikato region's most popular tourist destination.

Only five minutes drive from Hamilton's CBD, the Gardens is open 7 days a week during daylight hours and entry and parking is free. Access is off SH1, alongside Cobham Drive on the southern side of Hamilton.

Our overseas friends were amazed. The gardens are amazing. You can easily spend a half day ambling around. We have also taken friends from Christchurch to the gardens because friends of theirs recommended they visit. They weren't disappointed.

We had a great bus ride down and on arrival at Hamilton Gardens, we stopped in the café and had a great cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate together with our choice of food. We then spent a couple of hours walking through the gardens. I plan on going back in the spring/summer at which time there would be... More

Too few people are aware of the beautiful Hamilton Gardens. Just of Cobham Drive , dropping down towards the magnificent Waikato River, is Hamilton Gardens. This beautifully landscaped area offers open spaces, themed gardens including a traditional Maori garden, short river walks, and a cafe. It is a great place for a walk or picnic or quiet contemplation.

The gardens are beautiful, with so much to see. There are there the specialty themed gardens - English, Chinese, Japanese, contemporary American, Indian, Italian, Maori, Tropical, and new fantasy garden as of late. These are wonderfully maintained and have some rather beautiful spots to just sit and enjoy. I also love wandering through the herb and horticulture garden - see... More

If you enjoy a tranquil stroll with great company, then grab your bestie and head on over to the Hamilton Gardens. I would have to say that the Hamilton Gardens are the biggest hidden secret. The variety of landscapes from Italian to Maori, including all the flora and forna. The atmospheres are incredible....often with a lovely 'peek or full view... More
