Explore an enchanting world of secret gardens.

Transport yourself through time and to far-flung corners of the world. Meander through a lush tropical jungle, visit ancient China and indulge yourself in a Renaissance Prince's 16th century garden. Five garden collections have been created to delight the senses, with some garden concepts reaching back 4,000 years.

Hamilton Gardens is a conceptual garden based in the Waikato that explores the context, history and meaning of gardens through time, and from around the world. It is internationally recognised for its unique concept and is the Waikato region's most popular tourist destination.

Only five minutes drive from Hamilton's CBD, the Gardens is open 7 days a week during daylight hours and entry and parking is free. Access is off SH1, alongside Cobham Drive on the southern side of Hamilton.

If you enjoy a tranquil stroll with great company, then grab your bestie and head on over to the Hamilton Gardens. I would have to say that the Hamilton Gardens are the biggest hidden secret. The variety of landscapes from Italian to Maori, including all the flora and forna. The atmospheres are incredible....often with a lovely 'peek or full view... More

Memorable walk and beautifully landscaped. We enjoyed a Sunday fest at the gardens. Great for every age group. Downside: To vast and you might get lost.

My overseas visitors have placed the gardens on their "must see" list. The young Japanese students love to see their "home" garden as well as all the others. A recent Australian visitor was thrilled to experience an exhibition of kapa haka and of course, the rose gardens in November as well as the many other joys to be seen. I... More

A hidden jewel. Great for a stroll to enjoy the enchanting gardens, a picnic, photo session or family get-together. These gardens have it all and a good couple of hours is needed to enjoy everything. The Japenese garden is one of the many delights. Good walking shoes and a camera are essential. A mobility scooter can be hired for a... More

I loved the culture-themed gardens! The standout was probably the Italian Renaissance Gardens but every other garden was great. Authentic Japanese and English gardens I would say. As I was on a road trip I regretfully did not have time to explore the other themed gardens.

The Hamilton Gardens are a gem. Just a short drive from Auckland brings you to a World Class stunning vista of colour and collective architecture in a relaxing and quiet environment bordered by the Waikato River and excellent trout fishing just metres away.

Not a garden person but the Hamilton gardens are excellent, a great place for a walk and it's still free. If you have time the gardens are a great place to go.

I had never heard of Hamilton Gardens - formerly the site of a sand quarry, rifle range and the city's rubbish dump. It is now the home to picturesque and wonderful gardens. The paradise garden collection represents enclosed garden traditions including - Chinese Scholar's Garden, English Flower Garden, Japanese Contemplative Garden, Modeernist Garden, Indian Char Bagh Garden and the Italian...
