Explore an enchanting world of secret gardens.

Transport yourself through time and to far-flung corners of the world. Meander through a lush tropical jungle, visit ancient China and indulge yourself in a Renaissance Prince's 16th century garden. Five garden collections have been created to delight the senses, with some garden concepts reaching back 4,000 years.

Hamilton Gardens is a conceptual garden based in the Waikato that explores the context, history and meaning of gardens through time, and from around the world. It is internationally recognised for its unique concept and is the Waikato region's most popular tourist destination.

Only five minutes drive from Hamilton's CBD, the Gardens is open 7 days a week during daylight hours and entry and parking is free. Access is off SH1, alongside Cobham Drive on the southern side of Hamilton.

My 2 adult daughters, 2 pre-school children and I were privileged to visit this magnificent garden. Arriving with our picnic lunch, walking shoes, camera and baby stroller we ate our lunch in the beautifully manicured rose garden area before buying a hot drink & sitting by the lake edge enjoying the relaxing setting. Photos were taken in front of bursts... More

The gardens are well used by all, they are beautifully kept, great for a stroll or spend the afternoon wit a picnic, there was even a bride with gathering while we were there.

A really marvellous public garden. Very large (we spent 4 hours happily walking around it), and extremely well maintained. It has a large lake, native bush, rhododendron and camellia gardens, big rose garden, large hothouses and interesting little areas like the Suffrage Pavilion and the Russian Bell Tower. The themed gardens in the Paradise Collection and the Productive Collection are... More

We arrived in Hamilton with an hour or so of time to spare and decided the Gardens where the perfect place to go. I wished I had a day because it was amazing laid out from the map. We visited the themed gardens and was glad to wander through and feel like it was apart of that countries world. Unfortunately... More

Hidden away, and often zipped past, these are really worth a visit. Go when the seasons are changing and see nature at its best. The various themed sections make visiting for a long or short time possible, and things are always changing.

Visited with my husband and his mother and will love to return on any available occasion. We had time to visit only National Gardens - Japanese, Chinese, Italian, English, American... and they are beautiful, well explained, and include some sculptures. There si a good information centre and shop. The cafe was too full and we opted not to wait, but... More

Even if you don't like gardens you have to visit this place! The beautiful themed gardens, with lovely walls and buildings are just sensational. There are so many places to relax in the sun, or shade with lovely, serene fountains and water features it really is worth an extended visit. Have spent many hours in these gardens and they still attract me back. Unique mixture of theme gardens show a range of gardening traditions but my favourite of course is the Sustainable Backyard
