Explore an enchanting world of secret gardens.

Transport yourself through time and to far-flung corners of the world. Meander through a lush tropical jungle, visit ancient China and indulge yourself in a Renaissance Prince's 16th century garden. Five garden collections have been created to delight the senses, with some garden concepts reaching back 4,000 years.

Hamilton Gardens is a conceptual garden based in the Waikato that explores the context, history and meaning of gardens through time, and from around the world. It is internationally recognised for its unique concept and is the Waikato region's most popular tourist destination.

Only five minutes drive from Hamilton's CBD, the Gardens is open 7 days a week during daylight hours and entry and parking is free. Access is off SH1, alongside Cobham Drive on the southern side of Hamilton.

Owned and looked after by Hamilton council. Walk the gardens and enjoy. Well set out with different themes/countries. Has some art work scattered through out and a beautiful rose garden. Take a picnic and bread to feed the ducks. In summer sit beside the small lake or in winter enjoy a coffee at the cafe. :-)

If you find yourself with nothing to do in Hamilton, visit the Hamilton Gardens. It’s a public park and free, and tells the story of the gardens through themed garden collections. We particularly enjoyed the Paradise Collection which displayed gardens representing China, England, Japan, America, Italy and India. We visited some of the other collections as well – Landscape, Cultivar,... More

It was winter but still a good walk. Very well maintained gardens and worth a visit - even just to get you out walking!

Enjoyed all the gardens, but the wow factor was the Maori Garden with masses of kumara growing in the fenced area. The history was well set out and informative.

The Hamilton Gardens have really out done themselves with their new gardens. They are constantly up-dating and creating great ways to display their features. Perfect for a picnic!!!

We only had limited time, but we really enjoyed walking around the little themed gardens (eg Chinese, Japanese) and the herb garden. Great that it was free. Only drawback was that it was summer and there were at least three different weddings going on, so we felt a bit like we were intruding.
