Explore an enchanting world of secret gardens. Transport yourself through time and to far-flung corners of the world. Meander through a lush tropical jungle, visit ancient China and indulge yourself in a Renaissance Prince's 16th century garden. Five garden collections have been created to delight the senses, with some garden concepts reaching back 4,000 years. Hamilton Gardens is a conceptual garden based in the Waikato that explores the context, history and meaning of gardens through time, and from around the world. It is internationally recognised for its unique concept and is the Waikato region's most popular tourist destination. Only five minutes drive from Hamilton's CBD, the Gardens is open 7 days a week during daylight hours and entry and parking is free. Access is off SH1, alongside Cobham Drive on the southern side of Hamilton.

Quite different to the Botanical Gardens in Manurewa or Winter Gardens in Auckland. Quite unique with loads of different styled gardens. Free of charge and lovely on a sunny winters day, would only be nicer in the summer when the roses and flowers are abundant....More

Haven't been for a few years and what a change. 4 gardens under construction and they have more ideas yet. I wish my garden could be so well kept. It is winter now but the gardens still display well (though it was a little cold)....More

Visiting gardens in winter are not the ideal, but these were beautiful none the less. It is hard to believe the area was a dump only 40 years ago. A large area is given over to concept gardens , each one themed such as Indian,...More

Hamilton Gardens Exceptional, even in mid-winter! Immaculately maintained with any staff we encountered very happy and passionate about their particular area. We love roses and were especially impressed with the beauty of the rose gardens in their winter garb. Newly mulched, pruned to perfection and...More

Many of the gardens that I have visited around the world evolved from mining sites, quarries, or garbage dumps and Hamilton Gardens, I learned from our guide, replaced a waste disposal site in the 1960's. Maybe all those food wastes fertilized the soil with extra...More

Unfortunately rain cut short our visit to the Hamilton Gardens, but those areas that we did get to see, which included most of the walled gardens, were absolutely beautiful, and covered so many different themes. We were so amazed that this is a free attraction...More

We visited Hamilton Gardens to attend a poultry show being held there which was great but the real treat was the walk around the gardens themselves afterwards. So much variety and interesting things to look at. My favourite would probably be the fantasy garden. I...More

This was a great way to spend the afternoon in Hamilton! The gardens are larger than we tough and blew our expectations away! Even in the winter, this place is a must.

Hi Barb, thanks for your query - and look forward to seeing you! The Gardens have been designed for year-round colour. We replace the flowers in the Indian Char Bagh twice a year (more than 4,000 flowers!) so they will be... More
